How to setup a new xp windows

Restart your computer during the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the delete or F2 key

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS then using the arrow keys scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

note this will erase you operating system you will have to have an operating system disk to load it onto you hard drive or create a partition to load another operating system

note after you have loaded the operating system you should go back and change the first boot device to failsafe or optimised defaults

after windows has loaded

your computer will automatically restart it might restart 2 times one to finish the installation

the next will be because the operating system is loaded and will boot from your cd

if your installation disk is only a service pack 1 or 2 you might need to create an xp sp3 disk

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/learn-how-to-install-windows-xp-service-pack-3-sp3

if you have a copy of windows service pack there is a program that allows you add service pack 3 to it so you have a copy of xp sp3

hope this helps

After the welcome massage show me my desktop without its apps like "my computer or start.its just desktop picture after a prodouct error what i have to do?!?

Caused sometimes by the icon cache allocation needing rebuilding (the portion of the hdd that stores information on the icons). in this case however, I think its a failed installation or windows upgrade / service pack that is causing the problem.

It may also be virus related

In this order, try the following:
  • Reboot and try to boot to safe mode (f8), if you can access the desktop then, right click on my computer and schedule a disk check, reboot and let it repair
  • If this does not work, boot from you installation CD, let it find the previous install of windows and allow it to repair it, reboot and re-install service packs 2 and 3 from the Microsoft website
  • If this fails to work, you then need to format your hard drive and do a full re-install.. better to get another hard drive and install to that. That way, you can retrieve your data later from the old hard drive if you connect it as a slave.
I'd also check the old hard drive for viruses

My window xp2 is not installing window installer 3.1 help me

Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable supports Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 or later, Windows XP, Windows XP Service Pack 1, Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2003. Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 contains Windows Installer 3.1 and therefore can't be installed or upgraded by this redistributable.

Read the above, Windows Installer 3.1 already in in SP2. Why do you need to install it?

Service Pack 2 is known to cause issues. Can you restart the computer into safe mode?

Turn on the computer, press F8 while the computer is turning on, choose safe mode and remove Service Pack 2 by going to Control Panel, Add Remove Programs or if in windows vista or 7 - go to Programs and Features and select Service Pack 2 and click Uninstall.

Restart the computer and let me know if your computer comes back on.

I started download for windows vista update, its gave me message its service pack didnt install so its reverting changes back to not turn off computer . that was 3 hours ago, computer keeps rebooting its...

Hold down the f8 key while booting up.This will put it in safe mode.

once there, try setting the restore point to last known good configuration.

This should bring you back to before the update.

Vista service pack 2 is very large and can take awhile to install.

Try updating the service pack again. After you get running.
