If basic hard reset (unplugging power cord) did not work try the following:

  1. Remove cartridges
  2. Unplug printer USB
  3. Unplug printer power cable
  4. Wait ten minutes
  5. Plug back printer
  6. Install cartridges back
Also open printerdoors and check for fragments of paper or small foreign objects. Turnprinter upside down and shake gently to see if there is any foreignobject inside, such as small screws etc.

If it still does not work do the following:

  • Unplug printer USB from computer.
  • Uninstall printer from 'installed printers' in Windows Control Panel.
  • Insert printer disk or install drivers after download from Dell website here : Drivers and Downloads
  • Run printer drivers setup wizard and follow instructions.
  • Connect printer when asked by setup wizard.

This should fix the problem, unless printer is faulty

Try also taking the blue tray off and removing it than insert it again in its place, this often fix the photo tray error.

If it does not work do the following reset procedure:

1.. With machine powered on, unplug power cord from back of printer and wait for 30 seconds.

    2. While holding down the "ok" and "?" buttons, plug the power cord back into the printer.

    3. Let the thing power up again and give it time to go through all of its process.

If it get fixed do not forget to vote the solution.

    Many thanks

but the best way to fix this is turn it off for a while, take cartridges out , turn printer on and off, put cartridges back in and turn on

Then post and tell us if this worked

4. Open input sheet feeder (on top of printer)

5. Open cartridge access door. (Basically lift up control panel and scanner section of the printer)

My hp2780 keeps telling me the photo tray is not pushed in when it is

It's an incredibly frustrating problem. One thing that worked for me was to:

1. shut down the printer by pulling out the power source
2. make sure to push output tray down as far as it can go

Photo Tray Problem

When nothing worked, I reexamined the trays, and there is a small plastic hook about half an inch long under the left side of the D7460 output tray. The tray below had a small hole. So I clicked the two together, and the printer started printing. Probably like many of you I had elevated the output tray as the printer spews onto the floor. Apparently it needs this connection. So much time lost....

HP c7180 message "Push output photo tray all the way down"

I have the HP C7280 and I was able to fix the problem.
HP seems to have 3 trays. The bottom tray is for the paper. The middle one has a small blue tray for the photos and the top tray is where the paper comes out.
Well I lifted the top tray where the paper comes out (it can angle up) and then I clicked OK on the problem. I may have even rebooted, but then I got a new error message which is good. It said to push photo tray (the small blue tray) all the way in which I pulled out and pushed back in. Then I pushed the top tray down so all is flat again. I clicked OK and it re-calibrated with no more error messages! Hope this helps.

Out put tray

The quick start says to load plain and photo paper - don't!
Leave out the photo paper and it should install correctly - then you can use the photo paper.

Good Luck
