Question about Acer TravelMate 2300 Notebook

Phantom 'd' key

The 'd' character keeps coming up on screen without me pressing the key. It stops me from clicking on anything else and even when I delete the characters they keep poping up on screen as though I have the key depressed. I had the keyboard checked out and there isn't a short circuit or anything. It also stops me from rebooting properly. My Acer Travelmate 2420 keyboards 's' character keeps coming up on screen without me pressing thekey. It stops me from clicking on anything else and even when I deletethe characters they keep poping up on screen as though I have the keydepressed. It also stops me from rebooting properly.

Reset it. and follow this steps and fix it. God bless you
1 )Locate the reset switch on the underside of the treadmill console. Usually the button is large enough to trigger with a pencil eraser or Q-tip. Plug the treadmill plug back into the wall. Use the Q-tip to press the reset button. It may be necessary to hold the reset button down for a few seconds. "CL11" will appear in the display of the treadmill. ·2
Press the reset button one more time with the Q-tip. "CL21" should appear on the screen. Press the enter key. The display will change again and show "CL22." Keep pressing the enter key until the numbers cycle through to the number "CL26." Press enter one more time. The letter E should appear on the display screen.
·3
Press enter twice more. The letters "SS" should appear on the screen. When this happens, press the start/stop key. Making sure to keep well away from the tread, press enter to start the treadmill. The treadmill will start on its own. The treadmill will stop on its own after a few seconds. When it stops, press the power key two times. Remove the safety key and put in a safe place. How do I restore my pc back to factory settingg

1) Turn on your computer. Right away there will be a black screen. You can restore factory settings without a CD, too. This will reset your BIOS.

  • 2) Press F1 when the black screen appears; you will enter the setup configuration mode. You will be presented with a menu.

  • 3) Select Restore Factory Defaults. Your computer will do all the work for you. As with the CD, this process may take several hours.

  • OR

As soon as your computer is turning on press the F10 key and it will take you to the system recovery screen, click on the advanced option and click Destructive recovery and click next. WARNING: before doing this backup anything on your computer you want to keep pictures, videos, music etc.. this will delete everything that did not come pre-loaded from the factory, so if you have pictures of Aunt Fae's Class reunion you should probably back those up if you wanna keep them.
To keep your PC fresh and optimize it to best performance use system utility software RegInOut

I had the same problem. When I pressed shift and that comma key I got a " instead of a @.

I looked to see what on the leyboard you normally press to get a " and that's the number 2 key.

Tried pressing shift and the 2 key and hey presto, I got a @.

So it looks like @ and " have swapped places.

    So shift and 2 for a @!

Try hitting the S key and check for clips, staples, lint, food, fingernails or other debris that may be holding it down, if you can, pry off the key and check it as well, carefully blow on it.

    Phantom 'd' key

    Thespian,
There are only two reasons, that I know of, that would cause this problem. Either the keyboard or the keyboard interface chip on the motherboard. Of the two, I would suspect the keyboard more. Even though you have had the keyboard checked out, I'd suggest doing a double check. It could be the "D" key mechanism itself, the associated keyboard circuitry, the keyboard cable or the cable connector.
I don't remember, right off hand, does this model have a way of connecting an external keyboard? If so, try that. If it works, you've just verified 95% of the motherboard as being OK.
The ideal way of checking out a problem would be to swap out the keyboard from a similar unit, but would imagine you would have already tried that if you had access to one. If you are absolutely sure that the keyboard is OK, then the only choice that you have is to replace the motherboard. OH! One other thing to check might be the connector on the motherboard. Look at it very closely to insure that there is no foreign material in it and that all of the contacts are uniformly formed and lined up.

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.
If you can add anything else that might help, or have any questions, please ask!

SCREEN MESSAGE - MODE NOT SUPPORTED

You have set a resolution that is too high or incompatible with your monitor. I assume you are using Windows. Turn the computer on and immediately keep pressing F8 on the keyboard until the 'Windows Advanced Options Menu' appears. Use the Up and Down keys to select 'Enable VGA Mode' Press enter and your screen will work again when windows starts. Now go to the display properties and click 'Advanced' then click the 'Monitor' tab and tick 'Hide modes that this monitor cannot display' OK everthing and now you should be able to adjust the resolution without getting a blank screen again! Good luck and come back to comment soon. Regards
