Computer will not recognize HP Laserjet 2100 connected to a USB using Rosewill RCW615

    yes

  • lbrande Aug 23, 2008

Yes. The computer recognized an "unknown USB device" and proceeded top print gibberish on my other USP Inkjet.

  • lbrande Aug 23, 2008

I had already tried that, but the system sends the print data to the HP
7410 that is also installed. The HP 2100 is not a PnP printer,
and the Rosewill RCW-615 cable apparently needs a driver in order to
work. Rosewill does not have an XP driver.

Sorry that I have nothing to add to this besides stating that I am having the same problem with the RCW-615. I am trying to connect a Epson 570e dot matrix printer to a HP Proliant server that has no parallel nor normal PCI slots.

So far I have tried it in 3 other PC's all 2k or newer and none work. The worst part is a parallel to usb cable is really only useful on newer systems as anything that has 98se will have a parralel port.... On the upside Rosewill and Newegg are very helpful and if the replacement they are sending doesn't work they've promised a refund.

Printer not being recognized by computer

Sir/Madam

1. Is the printer turned on?
Make sure the printer is turned on.
Make sure the power cord is securely plugged into the electrical outlet.
Test the power by plugging in the power cord of another electrical appliance to an electrical outlet and turn it on. If the power to the other electrical appliance comes on, the printer may be considered to be faulty.

2. Are your computer and the printer correctly connected?
Make sure the USB cable is securely connected to the printer and to your computer and check that the USB cable is not damaged nor badly crimped.
The printer will not be recognized during the driver installation if connected to a printer switch or the printer buffer. If this is the case, try to directly connect the printer to your computer using the USB cable.
If you are connecting the printer to your computer via a USB hub, connect the printer to the first-tier hub from your computer. If the printer driver is still not recognized on your computer, try to directly connect the printer to your computer without the USB hub.
If you are connecting the printer to your computer via a USB hub, make sure the USB hub device is recognized by your computer.

I got a new computer but an old printer and I need the driver for it. It's a Hp officejet 2100 tn. I worried I'm going to download the wrong one and get virus's.

Hello,

All versions of windows since Win XP have had the driver for the Laserjet 2100 built in. When you connect your printer to the computer and reboot it should say 'found new hardware' and load the correct driver automatically.

Trying to connect HP Laserjet 2100 (works fine with XP) to Pavilion dv7 with Win7 64 bit Professional. I downloaded the PCL5 driver from HP but it will not print. I am using a Manhattan parallel to USB...

Did you download the Win 7 64 bit drivers for this printer. If not i suggest try downloading the drivers from the following link

Check the USB connection
The icon on the USB cable (c01424575.gif ) faces up when the cable connects to the product correctly. Check the back of your product and the back of your computer to make sure the USB cable connects correctly and securely.
After you make sure the USB cable connects correctly and securely, review the following guidelines to check other potential USB-related problems:

  • USB ports on the keyboard. USB ports on the keyboard and in the front of some computers might not be powerful enough to support the product. If the USB cable connects to the USB port on the keyboard, try connecting it to another available USB port on the computer.
  • USB cable length. HP supports USB cables less than 5 m (16 feet, 5 inches) long. However, a USB cable that is 5 m (16 feet 5 inches) long must be of high quality. Otherwise, HP recommends using a USB cable that is less than 2 m (3 feet, 3 inches). Do not use patch cables to increase the length of an existing cable. Use a powered USB hub if you need more length.
  • Alternate USB ports. Connect the USB cable to another port on the computer to make sure that the USB port on the computer is not the cause of the problem.
  • Defective USB cable. Replace the USB cable to make sure that the existing cable is not defective.
  • Conflicting USB ports. Disconnect any other USB printers, USB scanners, USB cameras, and any other USB connected peripherals. Start reconnecting these devices one at a time to determine if one of the devices is using too much power. Consider purchasing and installing a powered USB hub if necessary. NOTE: A USB-powered hub is a device that increases the number of available USB ports on a computer and facilitates communication between the USB devices and the computer. A powered USB hub can resolve communication failures between some, but not all, USB chipsets and HP products.

No printing

Well this issue must be related to the drivers of the printer, possibly incompatibility. Let's try to fix it with the easiest method.
First uninstall the driver after the printer is disconnected from the computer. Then run a registry cleaner (click here to download a freeware registry cleaner) to clear any unwanted registry files. You'll also need to clean the system using the feature with this application.
Now download this driver Hplaserjet 2100 windows vista32 (if your system is 32 bit) or hplaserjet 2100 windows vista64. Extract the files to a specific folder and follow the instructions as follows;
Click "Start" , select "Settings/control panel" and click the "Printers" folder.
Double-click "Add Printer".or click "File" on the menu and select "Add printer"
The "Add Printer wizard" will open. Select "My computer" then click "Next".
Select LPT1 (whether directly connected or networked) and click "Next".
Click "Have Disk".
Click "Browse".
The Locate file window will come up saying a: "is not accessible" . Click "Cancel".
Under "Look in" select the folder where the file is saved.
Highlight "HPLAOUT.INF" and click "Ok".
The Install from Disk window will reappear, click "Ok".
Select "HP LaserJet 2100 Series PCL 6" and click "Next".
Select the "Replace existing driver" option and click "Next". (This window will not come up if the uninstaller was used).
Select Not Shared and click "Next" .
Select "Yes" and then click "Finish".
Please don't skip even a step from the uninstall process. And do let me know when you are done.

Till then, Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

HP LaserJet 2100 will not stop printing nonsense when I have cancelled and cleared the print memory. It's going through tons of paper and turning it off, along w/the computer, for several minutes does not...

The "nonsense" is your printer trying to interpret the information. Go to HP.com and download the correct drivers. Delete all other drivers from the Printers and Faxes/File/Server Properties. Then install your correct print driver
