I think the power shot (A series) has the most user friendly interface! Just press up button to select auto/forced/off mode for flash. I hope this helps...

Try the same solution I just gave another with the same camera and the same request! You can do this through your settings menu. Have you used the menu before to change settings.Your manual will have instructions for this . Just in case you do not have the manual, I will look up your manual and try to find exact instructions for you. I'll get right back to you.
Your camera operating guide is available for dowload at this address

In the advanced guide on page 18, it explains how to use your func/settings button to find the settings you need. The advanced manual will address the darkness issue as well and settings to help with that. Each camera is a little different and I just wanted to make sure that I was using terminology that fit your camera. You can download the simple or advancedcopy of your manual. You will need to read it , so if you do not have a current version. you can go to that link and download it for free first.

I hope this helps you! And Thank You for using Fix Ya!

I have windows 7 and canon power shot a640 How do I download pictures to computer

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( ).

My power shot A640 will not turn on

Try installing new batteries. Else, you may need to send the camera in for repairs.

Lost my manual. My son borrowed it, returned and now I can shut off the flash. I used it primarily to take archival photos of my set designs of productions. The flash washes out colors and lighting. Help

It may be that your lighting settings on the camera could be off. Try a test shot with each different setting and the flash on to see if this is an issue. Also try performing a factory reset on the camera if you can

No, don't use superglue. Super glue will destroy plastic forever... Try other glue or double side scotch tape...

Falsh Problem with Power Shot a640

I had the exact same problem. You'll need to send it back to Canon. It'll cost you $87-94, but they'll clean it up, get the flash working, and make it new again. It's a good camera worth getting fixed.

Canon A640 flash problem

I sent my camera into Canon for repair. They said the flash was malfunctioning, and there was something wrong with the flash exposure control. The repair cost about $87. It took approximately 10 days from the time I sent the camera in until the time I got it back.
