White line in center..sound iis fine

Most common are soldering problems on the vertical deflection IC's.
If this line is quite bright: shut down the set, it might damage the picture tube permanently. Resolder all pcb connections under the vertical defl. part. With a magnifier you can see "craters" around the footprints. Where is the vert. deflection. ? Mostly an integrated circuit
on a vetically mounted heatsink . Typnumber: mostly something TDA53xx like. Gently knocking with a screwdriver and observing the screen might lead you to it's location if you're not familiar with TV's.
Watch out: lethal voltages !

Horizontal line running through the middle tv screen, no picture but has sound. TV is a Toshiba.

You haven't vertical deflection.
The ff caused the problem.
1. Dry joints on the vetical section.
2. Blew Vertical ouput IC
3. Open yoke vetical winding.
4. No vertical output from jungle IC.
5. Open supply for vetical ic due to open fusible resistor.

I've suspect that you have #1 and #2 fault. This is not Diy so I've advice you to send to repair shop or look for a qualified tech to isolate the problem.

Thanks for using fixya.

Horizontal line. When TV off for about 3-4 days & I hit it, then the picture comes on. I had this problem for over a year. Is the picture tube gone?

No this is not your picture tube causes you that king of problem.
In fact this is only due to a dry joints on the vetical output ic.
Resoldering the cold solder will fix the symptoms.
I've advice you to look a qualified technician to resolder the said parts.
This is quite fixable.

Thanks for using fixya.

Vetical lines appear & a horrible noise, have 2 reboot numerous times per day gateway P-6822 series

Vertical lines are usually caused by an lcd hardware problem.

Can you boot the computer to an external monitor?

Do the lines appear immediately after starting the comptuer?

Will not turn on. Shuts off immediately after turning on.

Sounds like the vetical deflection went out. Most likely have a leaking picture tube and the cooling fluid has goton on the board so you would be beter to replace if that is it.

You need to flash or update your computer's bios. if you have an inspiron 1501 go here:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R174470&SystemID=INS_PNT_1501&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=13120&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=9&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=236967
read the installation instructions or print it. then download the file and follow the instructions. after restart. see if you still get the vertical lines.

No clear picture just wavy lines and error message

The spec sheet I found says your monitor should be able to display 1280 x 1024, 720 x 350, 720 x 400 and four other resolutions in the 640 x .... range which are pretty useless. Try setting ti to 1280 x 1024 at 16 million colors @ 60 Hz and let us know what happens.
