1997 GMC Sierra Logo
Posted on Jun 26, 2011

Hi, I have a 1997 GMC Sierra (5.7 L). Once every two weeks or so it won't start. I just get one click. If I wait a little while (15 sec to 15 minutes) and try to start it, it starts perfectly. After it starts, the engine runs great. The battery is 3 years old. The starter is 2 years old. What could be the problem? I apprectiate any help. Thanks.

Check the starter it could a bad cross over or the teeth on the catch wheel (or what ever it is called) could be broken and by attempting to start it you are bypassing the broken teeth and it will catch allowing the vehicle to start. Also just to be thorough double check the electrical from the batt to the alt, ignition switch and the starter.

Buzzer will not shut off after truck is started

After jump-starting a car, you should let it run for at least 10-15 minutes afterward. If it won't start again, get a new battery.

Need to know why a 97 mercury cougar won't start until cooling fan and fuel pump stop running

I would think it's a problem with (CCRM) constant control relay module . This module has relay's inside that control the fuel pump , cooling fans , A/C compressor clutch , PCM - engine computer power relay . And thier are electronics involved , solid state circuity . Google CCRM

1997 gmc sierra 3500 won't start

When you turn the ignition to start, do you hear the starter turning and the solenoid engaging the flywheel ? test your starter by jumping it and see if the engine turns over. If this works, then you might consider in checking fuel pressure. Do you have any codes in your ECM ?

94 gmc sierra 4.3 v6 manual, won't turn over, can hear fuel pump start when accessories turned on..won't fire, girl who needs help

The first thing I would check is fuel pressure. This type of fuel injection requires a minimum fuel pressure in order to operate. If fuel pressure is as little as one psi below minimum the vehicle will not start. You can try squirting a couple of shots of carb spray into the air snorkel while somebody cranks the engine over. If the engine starts and then dies you now you fpdeffinetely have a fuel issue. If the engine still won't start check for spark. Let me know what you find. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

Won't crank

Take mass air flow sensor off and clean the inside with a non-chlronated brake cleaner and allow to dry for 15 minutes then re-install.

Hi, can you tell me how to reset the change engine oil light on my 2002 GMC Sierra 4X4 1500 PU. I changed the oil two weeks ago. Thanks, Gene

with key on engine off depress accel pedal 3 times within 5 secs. You may have to repeat the procedure several times for the reset procedure to complete. dont stomp on the pedal. Slowly depressing seems to work best.

92 gmc c2500 turbo diesel. starts then dies after a few seconds.

Sounds like the Pump Mounted Injection Module.. Starts, dies, Starts dies... Not a fun fix.. but atleast it's just under the intake..

Stalling

Possibly faulty ignition module is the problem, stalls when engine is hot when you sit for a while it cools off and runs again until it heats up again, those are usually the symptoms of a bad ignition module and after a while it may give out all together and not run at all, usually if the module is at fault it shuts down the fuel pump so the engine don't load up with fuel, do to when engine continuously cranks over the injectors never stop squirting fuel and flood the engine do to lack of spark which is produced by the module, this could possibly be your problem.
