hi, the tv is not set on sleep timer is it. the other fault could be a dry joint or a swollen capacitor a loose board with the power off you will need to do a visual check make sure you've got a good light hope it helps

Sounds like the vertical IC has gone out. Possible with some capacitors. Usually, when you take the back off, Its located on the right side towards the front. It usually has about 10 legs. I can't remember off the top of my head.
Mine did/does the same,,,while in standby it also did/does produce a clicking sound intermitently.....now Pic and sound cycles on/off every 10 seconds or so. Intestingly...I could go on....but whats the point........JUNK
Hitachi says "to bad" 26 months old and $800 to fix. Buy another brand........
