SOURCE: WD5000E035-00 Power Adaptor shuts down

If $30 are going to doom you, then yes, you are doomed.

If not, I saw a replacement power supply for this model on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/AC-power-adapter-for-Western-Digital-WD5000E035-00-HDD_W0QQitemZ150364569908QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090808?IMSfp=TL090808132006r26444

But before you you buy one, I'd suggest trying to go to a store that sells it and see if a different power adapter will actually fix the problem. It sounds like it's just the adapter that's messed up, but you never know and we don't want you to waste money for nothing.

Testimonial: "thnx mate.although I still had guarantee on that HDD I decided to pop open the case, threw the drive in another case and viola! HDD woks again."

SOURCE: I have a Western Digital Wd2000 hard drive 200 GB

The 20 GB drive will be Master and the 200 GB will be slave. If you are using one cable, you can use the cable select setting.
If you are useing two cables, one must be set as master and the other set as slave.

SOURCE: Need driver for Western Digital Scorpio

Hi raider4123,

The Western Digital Scorpio (WD2500BEVS) doesn't come with a driver, but I have an idea that perhaps you may have a pin setting wrong, making the drive not recongizeable. Here is the information on setting the pin on the back'

If that doesn't seem to solve the problem, then I'd run the WD Lifeguard software, that will detect any problems and correct them for you. You can find that software HERE.

Good Luck,

And don't forget to leave a rating.

Thanks

Mark

How can Western Digital hard disk drives be recognized by third party USB external docking stations?

The format on a disk, will not be relevant of recognition via an USB connector. To connect a drive via USB, the computer must have the correct driver for the hardware you are connecting. Be sure you connect the HD coerce to the external harness and make sure it is supplied with the correct voltages.
When you connect a working system on the USB connector and the drive does not have a format, the computer will see that and ask you if it should format the drive.

Hard drive

It means that your HDD is damage, no good. Need to get another one and reformat your computer.
The way to troubleshoot any computer that won't turn on is checking the power supply fan to see if it does anything when pressing the power button. If you see that the fan try to start but stall, then there is a bad hardware install. What I do is take all the hardware out and start the troubleshooting by installing the hardware one at a time. When the computer stop responding after installing one of the hardware, then it means that this hardware is bad. You already troubleshoot the computer by installing the HDD and seeing that the computer won't start.

I'm trying to install a Western Digital Serial ATA Hard Drive into the external hard drive enclosure. There are no instructions as to what cables need to be attached and to where

USB external hard drive cases are supplied with SATA and power connectors attached to the circuit board in the case. If you canot connect it to the SATA hard drive then you may have the wrong drive case, your case may be a IDE or SCSI type.

External HDD not working , but can here it running

Have you tried powering it up without connecting it to the computer?
It should at least power up and do something. After that try connecting it to your PC (with the disk powered up already).

You can further check this external drive troubleshooting article, which has some tips on trying to get external disks to work.

Western Digital My Book Essentials will not power on (no light in front).

I FOUND THE SOLUTION. Here's what you must do. Unplug ALL the cables that are attached to the Western Digital Hard Drive. In other words PHYSICALLY disconnect the firewire/USB cable from BOTH the computer and the Western Digital Hard Drive.Do the same with the power adapter, unplugging it from the wall outlet as well as the Western Digital Hard drive. Now shut down your laptop or computer. Then plug EVERYTHING back in. Now re-start your laptop or computer. Everything should work fine and be back to normal. Good luck.
