Question about Canon PowerShot A640 Digital Camera

1 Answer

A640 Lock-up Hi, The camera was working fine up until today when I took it out of the case, it was stuck, locked-up somehow. I haden't used it in a couple of days (had never had a problem with it before), and now, the only sign of life when pressing the ON/OFF button is the small green light underneeth turns on but nothing else powers up or happens. The only way to get the green light off again is to take the batteries out. Also, the lens is stuck open, and the zoom partially out. What should I do? Has this camera taken it's last picture...or is there hope? (Also, I'm currently living/traveling abroad and don't have my original box/receipt with me.) Any help would be GREATLY appreciated..!

Take out the OTHER battery, the one that maintains the date / time and then the camera can 'reboot' cleanly when you put some fresh batteries in it.

There are numerous suggestions on-line elsewhere for this common problem with Canon lenses. Does your display give you an error message? If yes, google that error message and you should find many suggestions for fixes. I know some places actually advocate just forcing it back into the properly aligned position although I think that should be a last resort. I have not done this myself but there are many who have fixed these cameras successfully. Good luck

LCD Screen not working, but camera still takes pictures

Looks like the contacts of the LCD of your camera are loose. Be advised that this repair would require you to take it apart and may vvoid your warranty. If there are no faulty contacts then you will have to replace the LCD screen. Should cost you around 100-150$

Canon A640 thinks media card is lock

Inside your camera there is a detector that senses that your card is locked or not it sounds like yours is stuck in, you may be able to free it get yourself a flash light and look inside the socket on the side where the slide is on the memory card use a very small tool or paper clip you have to be really careful when doing this you could break the sensor if your to rough on it.Good luck

I sent my camera into Canon for repair. They said the flash was malfunctioning, and there was something wrong with the flash exposure control. The repair cost about $87. It took approximately 10 days from the time I sent the camera in until the time I got it back.

Canon ixus 75 memeory card

On the SD card itself there is a little tab that slides back and forth. It should be closest to the the end you put into the camera first. If it broke off, then the camera is stuck in lock mode. If this is the case, it's not worth trying to glue something in its place...just invest in a new one.
