Question about Encore ENUWI-G2 802.11G WIRELESS USB 2.0 ADAPTER (54 MBPS)
I just replaced my hard drive with another one, the wireless adapter worked fine on the other one using XP with SP2.. and on the new one it worked until I upgraded to SP2 ... Any suggestions? I have followed the message I get " check ok then change order of prefered networks, then click advanced, on advanced change to which network I want to connect to ( It hasn't mattered which network I picked neither one works) Close on advanced and check ok to wireless to apply change"
Well, i had this same problem (it's specific to SP2, does not happen with SP1) and this is is the way i fixed it (I don't like it very much, but at least it worked):
1) Unistall Realtek USB Wireles LAN utility
2) Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware ->Device Manager->Universall serial Bus Controllers
then choose the one with the word "enhaced host controller" or similar (usually the last one), right clik->Disable
3) Install Realtek USB WLAN Utility and everything should work fine.
The problem (a quite annoying one) is that now your usb flash disks will work slower than it could. For small amount of data (<100M) it doesnt matter. When you have to work with huge data transfers to you USB you can enable the controller for the moment.
I know it's not the greatest solution ever but if it's your only way to get internet connection it worths a try.
