Error 12 is what you get if you autocalibrate and do not have the microphone attached.

Hello. When we turn on our DVD player, it all of a sudden does not work. IT says "welcome" and OPen, but all at once flashes "protection" and shuts itself off. How can we fix this...

This is an error message which indicates that there is a hardware error on the circuit and needs correction and replacement before the feedback will reset the processor.
So you will need to disconnect the drive sections and see if the error message changes. If not there are shorting within the main board and needs a confirmation by elimination and voltage checking.

I got a noisy cooling fan in my TEAC agv 8500 receiver and I was wandering if anyone knows how many volts the fan is? I was thinking of putting a 12v one from a computer.

i would spray the fan with a light oil , like switch cleaner first. ( disconnect from power ) spray , then leave to dry, that should help, if not change fan with equivalent type,

Error 12 message on my Sony STR-DG510

error 12 is when you autocalibrate and do not have the microphone connected, when that is the case the receiver can not detect the speakers.

Harman Kardon AVR 245 Receiver PROTECT Error Message/Shutting Down All Equipment

could be your receiver only, it has tripped due to discrepancy on the output stage of your amp. that cracking sound in one of your speakers could have caused the trouble. it is possibly shorted. but in your case it could have damaged already the amp that;s why it would not turn on. normally it will first trip, turn on then turns off. but to stay off and not to turn on again is major problem of the amp. or maybe it emanated from miscabling, probably the ceiling speakers got connected to a high output or main amp. but try removing all speakers first then turn the unit on. see if it does power up.

What failed component causes protection error message to display right at power up.

well, i just got this thing from a friend. its a Denon AVR-800. when powered up it displays the stops, just before finishing a -protect- shows up. There's a little red light standby light that blinks off and on also. i think that has to do with the internal problem. any suggestions?

My Technics SL-DV290 stereo has stopped playing dvd/cds, it just says 'no read' when it initially scans dvd/cd prior to play Please help!

This means that the unit can tell that a disc is present, but can not read it. Try opening up the top and cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Let us know if that resolves the problem.
Thanks,
Dan

Amp error

I had this exact same problem, it can indicate that there is an impedance mis-match somewhere. i.e. using 4 or 6 ohm speakers instead of 8. However if you unplug the speakers and it is still doing it then you could have a problem with the actual amp circuit.

Mine was doing it with nothing plugged in and had dry solder joints on the circuit board with the two large output devices are. Simply resoldered those and it is fine now.

It had started crackling before it stopped working all together, which would also indicate the start of dry joints or bad connections somewhere.

Regards,

Rolf.
