Re: What causes bad battery life?

Bad battery life has a number of major causes: The primary causes are: Selection of the wrong battery chemistry or type for the camera used Extremely power-intensive use of the camera A damaged battery (probably the least common cause of bad battery life) The way in which the camera is used is at least as important as the battery chemistry selection in influencing battery life. The highest power-usage modes in any digital camera will be video and live preview. Thus, heavy users of these modes will see the shortest battery life. Other significant power consumers are the strobe, zoom motor, fill flash, and the image LCD display. For longer battery life, use these modes only as necessary.

Battery life is only about few days even if we dont use the camera, any idea how to fix the problem?

The battery could be dying. Otherwise, resistance, in the form of oxidation or poosibly corrosion on battery terminals, will cause current drain, and decrease the life of the battery. Make sure the battery terminals, as well at the terminals inside the camera, are clean (use a qtip and alcohol, or a pencil eraser to clean them.
Aside from that, the problem will require servicing. Get an estimate first, since the cost of repair can be high.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

Camera will not keep any battery life, we have put in new batteries numerous times and the problem is consisent?

If the batteries are indeed of the correct type and voltage (you can get no-life or short-life even on a new battery by mixing LiIon with NiMH batteries, for example), then the only likely explanation is that the charging circuit is out of kilter. Unfortunately, there's no user-accessible way of repairing it; you'll need to send it to Sony technical assistance.

Other possible, though unlikely, causes are: dirty battery contacts (you can clean them with a cotton earswab, dry or slightly wet with circuit cleaning fluid or isopropyl alcohol); problems with external chargers; low utility voltage resulting in a lower-than-normal voltage to the battery (this only happens in weird line conditions and with older chargers. I'd say its likelyhood is nil. But you never know; if you have a DIY electric multimeter, you may want to check the VCC rating of the charger).

Battery life is very bad. i can put in a new battery and it will last. maybe 3 to 7 pictures. and the low battery will come on. and maybe get 1 more pic. and then die.. am i using the wrong battery? i even...

With no mechanical problem,
It may Cost 90$ to fix it

I hope there would be a capacitor or an IC problem

But first test A Proper Pair of Ni-MH rechargeble Batteries

Good Luck

What is the battery life...if its not fuuly charged could it cause the zoom to malfunction

surely your cybershot tells you on the screen how much use you have remaining.battery life does reduce with age. The battery does not need to be fully charged to opeate the zoom function, but when it gets low, it will eventually not be able to move the lens at all. It is always a good idea to have at least one spare battery for a digital camera.Especially when most have memory cards that can hold far more shots than one battery power.

Same problem..lots of life left but camera says CHANGE

How many volts do the batteries have on each of them? Many devices will not work if even one battery is less than the rated value of the battery like 1.5 volts. One battery low or bad draws down the others in series with it. It will be seen as a resistance and not a power source.

Try a new set or if you can use a fresh set of Alkaline.

Low battery warning always on

Most battery meters measure by small fluctuations in voltage. Your battery may be faulty, old, or perfectly fine. If the camera is turning off because of the low battery, its very possible it has lost capacity. Fully depleating and fully recharging batteries during their life everytime, or just once and a while helps ensure their health. Not doing this at some point in time will cause a battery's life to shorten. You may want to look into a new battery soon, but you should see if you can find one you can test with it first (or find a multimeter and see what kind of voltage you're getting from it). Hope this helps.

Low/exhausted battery. Is it the AA batteries or the MiMh battery that is the problem. Camera is relatively new

if you use the lcd screen a lot, which i know i do, it really shortens the battery life.  good to carry extras, NimH batteries have a shorter life but can be recharged 100s of times....       try different sets and let me know if any particular set gives you less life than the others.  Sometimes NimH batteries go bad, usually the charger lights will reveal this when you go to charge them...  but one bad battery will greatly shorten the battery life.  you are lucky the camera gives you the option of using either, so you could, say you were at disney world and your nimh were dead, pickup some AA to get you thru the day.  rsvp ;)

Battery life for my camera is miserable - I've had the camera for 2 years and I'm already on my second battery. Is this a function of the make and model or do I have a faulty camera? Thank you

That is not good, by the way is there a possibility that the battery is over charge? because overcharging it will cause some damage on the battery and it will only good for a few months...

Hope that helps........
