Question about Olympus C-3000 Zoom Digital Camera

Olympus C-3000Z and Vista, can't unload

Running Vista Home, camera is not automatically recognized when connected to USB. I have the disc but get an error message when I try to run the install. I don't have the file mentioned elsewhere that need to have semi colons removed. A couple of programs also mentioned elsewhere have fail to recognize the camera. All were mention in the context of Win XP though.

I will get a SM card reader but until I do I was hoping there was something which will work via the USB cable. TIA

More specific info, the error message when I try to install the Camedia software is:

    16 bit Windows Subsystem

SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I went into the registry and there is just nothing except the vanilla (Default) REG_SZ (value not set) as the entry.

I hadn't googled enough, sorry. Needed to add a registry entry.

    RESOLUTION

    Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

Locate and click the following value:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD

On the Edit menu, click Delete.

On the Edit menu, click Add Value.

Type VDD in the Value Name box, click REG_MULTI_SZ for the Data Type, and

    then click OK.

The Multi-String editor appears. Leave this entry blank and click OK.

    Quit Registry Editor.

It worked for the install of the Camedia software.

At first it wouldn't connect to the camera but I messed around with the compatibility settings and got it to work running as Win2K.

I have not been able to unload the camera with the Camedia software since that one time. If the camera is off I get the expected error message. With it on the program just hangs, says connecting to camera indefinitely. Need to use Task Manager to end it. I have tried compatibility settings again with no result. Uninstalled and reinstalled, done a roll back and gone through the whole setup the same way I got it to work once. I tried the Pinetree software and it does the same thing, just hangs (vista does not like the PTC). Beginning to wonder if the cable may be somehow faulty/intermittent. If it never worked I would blame Vista and move on. But it did work, I just can't get results again. I would like the option of unloading with the USB cable, those SM cards are so flimsy I wonder how much handling they can withstand using a reader.

Any suggestions or should I try a new USB cable? TIA.

I bought my Olympus C-3000 Zoom Digital Camera and now

my PC is changed to Windows Vista and I could not find the software

to download my pictures to my Vista PC.

The company that made this camera should provide this software.

    Otherwise, my camera is useless.

If they insist not to provide the software, LET'S NEVER BUY ANY CAMERA FROM THIS COMAPNY - OLYMPUS - AGAIN !

Olympus master will not recognize my stylus 710

The software for your camera is outdated and not supported by the later version of Windows, If Olympus does not have a later version on their website you are out of luck. Windows Vista had a lot of issues. My advice would be get rid of Windows Vista and install Windows XP.
It is far better.

Programa no responde

If I understand your problem right, the installed Olympus program does not launch (start) when connecting the camera to the computer using the Olympus' USB cable.

1. For the program to start automatically, the camera must correctly being recognized by the computer. Check if this is the case! When connecting the camera to the computer, you should see information shown on the camera's display!
2. If not, try to connect the camera on another USB port, or better another computer to diagnose the problem.
3. If the camera is recognized, you can set an option in the program to autostart the program when connecting the camera to the computer.
4. If it does not help, reinstall the program.

I cannot connect up SP800UZ to my computer.

If you mean that, even when you connected the Olympus USB cable correctly, the computer does not recognize the camera? If so, connect the camera to another computer to check if the camera or usb cable or the original computer is causing the problem. Often the computer does recognize the camera as a Removeable USB Device. You can see that when using e.g. the Windows Explorer. If the problem is only, that the installed Olympus software is not started, when connecting the camera to the computer, check the settings of the [ib] software by running it manually. Otherwise re-install the [ib] software.

Impossible to transfer shots to my PC. Corrupted shots.

Instead of putting the card in the computer leave it in the camera and try using the usb cable that came with the camera. After hooking up the cable turn the camera on. If you have vista and are connected to the Internet, Vista should find what it needs and install it. If you don't have Vista, try installing the disc that came with the camera.

Vista and firewire 1394?

Firewire works fine under Vista, but it's quite possible your USB to Firewire bridge doesn't have proper Vista drivers. You wouldn't expect Vista to include these, they would be installed from a disc that came with your adaptor. USB to Firewire is a questionable option at best... there are often problems with it. You may be better off with a PC-Card or ExpressCard solution, if the laptop is your only computer.

Also, when the camera says "DV IN", it's expecting video from the PC to be sent to it, it's not in capture mode. Most camcorders must be in either "play" mode, or a special "link to PC" mode in order to even be recognized by Windows (any version) as a video input device.

However, until you resolve the issue of supporting your Firewire device in Vista, nothing the camcorder does will be an issue yet. You should check the documentation that came with your USB to Firewire device, the driver disc, etc. for information on Vista support.

Not recognized by pc

im running Vista Ultimate - I get the same problem. Just try to install/re-install the driver. It's how I got it to work, but after every connection you gotta do it again. My guess is this camera isn't Vista certified. You can always buy a memory card and use that for the pictures.

Why doesn't the Image Expert software recognize the camera?

If you have a version of Image Expert from a different camera, printer, or other product, make sure you install the version of Image Expert included on your PhotoPC 3000Z Software CD-ROM and use it when you are connecting to your camera. The correct version is named Image Expert - PhotoPC 3000Z (version 1.8.7).
