This power supply board is also used in Viewsonic VX2835W. The main problem are 4 bad/defective capacitors and shorted legs due to bleeding of soldering lead (brownish color).

1. 22uf 400v
2. 47uf 50v
3. 1uf 100v
4. 22uf 35v

You can find them near the PWM IC controller (U601). Replaced all these capacitors regardless they look good. I pulled them out off the board and tested them with my Blue ESR and capacitor tester and found 3 were defective.

Next, you need at least 97% Isoprophyl alcohol and toothbrush to clean the soldering paste. Due to overheating on the primary section / HOT section the soldering leads tend to produce brownish paste which is causing the component parts to SHORT. Concentrate at the back of the board, especially at the U102 (16-pin IC) and Q202 by scrubbing these IC and transistor carefully. I used magnifier to make sure the legs are clean and shiny. Clean the rest of the back and some part on top of the board. Let it dry for 2 hours at least. I did 2 times this cleaning to make process.

On my VX2835W main board has 2 bad capacitors at C124 and C126. I replaced them and cleaned also the board with alcohol.

That's it. Good Luck.

Green timer light no picture

Also known as the Green Blinking Light of Death.
The repair on this is cheap but very time consuming and wit no gaurentees.
There are 4 Capacitors on the DM board and 4 Capacitors on the Formatter board that are more than likely defective and need to be replaced.
On the DM board the locations are C81A2, C81A3, C81B3 and C81B4. They will probably be swollen.
On the Formatter board the locations are C8F19, C8F21, C8F22 and C8F27. Also will probably be swollen. The values of all 8 capacitors are the same. 1000MF/16V. Replace with value 680MF/16V.
While you have the chassi ripped apart, check the power supply board as well. You should fine some swolle caps on it also. Replace with same value of the one you remove.
Now once all of this is done and you put everything back togeather, you have a 50/50 chance of success. I have found that many surface mount caps can also go bad on the formatter board. If your repair does not work, then replace all of the surface mount caps on the formater board that are 10 and 16 volts.

Good luck to you.

More than likely you have some swollen capacitors on your power supply. With a soldering iron, remove the swollen caps and replace with the same value. This should cure your problem.
The caps will be easy to notice because they will be rounded and puffed on top. Good caps are nice and flat on the top.
Remove the board from the set and unsolder the legs of the caps and pull them out of the board.
It is very important that you install the new caps the same direction that they came out. There is a line on them with - - - that side of the cap goes in facing the mark on the board.

Dots in picture (red, pink, etc.). Will go away after power cycling the set. please help.

is this a Samsung LN or LNT model?
if so there are two or three bad capacitors in the power supply...all of them located in upper right hand corner of the board between the heatsink up there and the wiring harness that jumps over to the main board. Look for the capacitors that have their tops buldged up.
Change them with same value
1000uf 10v or
2200uf 16v
or however they are marked (different size screen used different value caps)

Radio Shack is your best bet. I replaced two 680uf 10v caps and one 1500uf 10v cap. It now works just like brand new. The caps I replaced had higher voltage values hopefully this will help prolong the life of them.

Half of screen blacks out

sounds like power supply caps or caps in the dm board
http://www.auctioncreations.com/wd62525a.JPG

The DM board is the one with the digital connectors on the back panel. If you already have it appart, you may as well check the caps on all of the boards. The caps that go bad are typically Jamicon brand caps in 1000 uF and 330 uF values. There are also a couple of 3300 uF caps in the PS that cause problems.
