Question about Polaroid FLM-3732 Television

Green/blue vertical lines, no pix, screeching

If it gets a picture, it's intermittent... screeches, then has green/blue vertical lines... Is mine a capacitor problem, too?

I had the same symptoms, screeching in sound and picture breaking into lines. The caps were the problem.Don't worry about the 35volt vs.10 volt rating.Don't ever replace a cap with one that has a LOWER voltage rating OR a radically higher rating. For original 10 volt caps don't use 6 volt(they would probably blow up due to excess current leakage)and don't try to use 150 volt(over time they might do something called deforming that is peculiar to electrolytic caps. The 35 volt radio shack units will work just fine and are unlikely to give future problems. There is a third 1000 micrfarad cap not far from the other 2 that didn't look too good to me.I would suggest replacing that one while you are doing all the dissassembly to get to the others.

This is a cap problem too. There is a third 1000 microfarad cap near the other 2 I would suggest you replace while you are in there. The instructions are very good and if you follow them carefully it should be an easy repair. If you have a friend who does some electronics and are unsure of your ability it will be duck soup for anyone who can solder.

Check and replace the back-light inverter board. The inverter transformer on it can cause this type of fault.

SCREECHING AUDIO

My Vizio (don't know model # off hand, 32" bought at WalMart in Jan), is doing the same thing. It did it once the day I set it up; thinking it was just a glitch or something about my lack of knowledge with HDTVs, I powered it off (the hard way, yanking the power cord, as it won't turn off any other way) and restarted it, everything seemed OK. It did it again around April, same thing, just a glitch I figured. I changed some cables, attached more devices, and it has been doing it about twice a week now.

Sometimes it is the full video lockup, with vertical green lines, and full blast audio screech. A couple times it has only partially locked up the video (green vert lines, but still some movement), and no audio screech. Did it last night most recently, hence my google search.

Anyway, my point is, this is probably more common than we were both thinking, and they know just from your description what the problem is. I would try to have them repair such a known-issue free of charge, even out of warranty.

Try changing the H/V position in the TV Set Up menu. You can adjust the horizontal and vertical position of the screen and move it enough that the green line disappears from the screen.
