Question about Dell Inspiron 5160 Notebook
Hi there! My USB port is not working correctly. If I plug my ipod into it the ipod sees the computer and charges it but for some reason the computer is not seeing my ipod. I have already restarted it several times and also checked with other equipment...my camera does the same thing. i can't afford to replace my computer now but is there a way i can just replace the usb port?? or is there another route I can go? Please help.
This is either a driver glitch or a faulty port. Start by uninstalling the usb drivers from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the ports and reinstall the drivers automatically. If this doesn't fix it, then the ports are faulty and will need replaced. The usb ports are very simple devices, when the drivers are present, they either work or they don't. Other than the drivers, they have nothing else to go bad other than the port itself, and in general, when one goes they all go.
