Hi,
If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't
troubleshoot the unit yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional
to isolate the problem. Also, check if your unit is still under warranty/extended warranty
period, avail it because the manufacturer will fix it for free. Opening the
back cover will void the warranty. Hope I helped you. Have a nice day! Thanks for using Fixya.
This kind of symptoms indicated of fault either the bulb or the inverter board.
If the unit has a faulty bulb, dim picture will be the result and will detect by the feedback circuitry and will turn off the inverter board resulting to black picture. Busted bulb has a physical indication of fault like a blackened end and can easily identified.
Another caused of the symptoms is the faulty inverter board itself. If this is the case, troubleshooting is quite technical because you have to check the high voltage transformer, driver transistor, resistors, and capacitor. You may also replaced the entire board for your convenient, check the availability from your local Service Centers.
Prepare $200 more or less(depend upon the shop) for service fee alone. Parts will cost less than $100 if the bulb was faulty, more than that if the inverter board's gone bad.
Ask for an estimate first for service fee on your local repair shop and parts lets say inverter board's(knock on wood) to have an idea how much money you are going to spend sending it in.
