We paid $350.00 to a repair man who said he needs to rebuild board of Termal connections. When he left....about 5 min later the picture went off again. That was the original problem. He will not answer our calls

  • akaosk1 Aug 22, 2008

    our tv is a Mitsubishi # 5057

  • akaosk1 Aug 22, 2008

So now are you saying it is not the thermol Board connection that we paid $350.00 for and does not work anyway?

  • akaosk1 Aug 22, 2008

I am going to try that site but where will I find that symbol at the very end of the address? it ends with htm?

  • akaosk1 Aug 22, 2008

Than you so much for your help. I am sorry I did not give the model # when asked. It took me a while to understand how this all works. I am a 73 year old grandma and slow..HaHa

So now I will add th $9.95 to my $350.00 and still have no tv.

Thanks again and pray for me OK?

  • akaosk1 Aug 22, 2008

It was helpful and I feel enlightened. I just have to save up my money to get it repaired or replaced
    Thank you

  • akaosk1 Aug 22, 2008

Well, of course after the fact..... I went on BBB and they are unsatifactory.

I turns out his SHOP is apt 2 in Calumet city. And the BBB report claims he is owner /operator. and a smooth one at that HUH?

All I can say is LESSON LEARNED.

He had a coupon in the yellow pages for 25% off of repair but he would not give it to me because I did show him the coupon before he quoted me a price. AGAIN............Lesson Learned

There's a possibility that there's another problem bad components there aside from the board that why you still have the problem after fixing the board and the repairman should diagnose the problem properly..

Good luck..........

This may be our problem in your tv

Bad solder connections.
Other shorted components like capacitors.
Other problems in the power supply or its controller.
Bad flyback.
Short or excessive load on secondary supplies fed from flyback.
Short in horizontal yoke windings.

FIRST TRY: Do a hard reset. Unplug the tv and leave disconnected for 4 hours. This may or may not help, but it is a necessary step to restore all internal software codes to their factory settings.

SECONDLY: When it goes off, unplug the set for 2 minutes and plug it back in. It should come on; but it may not stay on long.

THIRD: If the set keeps going off, it will need service (or replacement). The high voltage is failing due to some failure in the deflection system. (The horizontal deflection system is the seed for starting the high voltage generator, so if it fails, the high voltage fails, too.

It is a marginal question as to whether the set is worth major repair or not; sort of a judgement call on your part. But, if the remedies mentioned above don't help, then it will take some big bucks to fix it; probably in the neighborhood of $200 to $400, all depending on the ailment that is determined by an expert tech.

Wishing you the best,

Picture can go off after some times for different reasons, depends on what kind of TV set you have , troubleshooting an LCD tv, a tube tv, a plasma or a DLP is different.

  • Ginko
    Ginko Aug 22, 2008

On a traditional tube tv it is either a problem on main crt or a flyback transformer fault.
Usually the flyback transformer attached to the tube must be tested and replaced.
This job must be done by a professional repairman, as it is not an easy repair.
Call phone number that you find in your user manual or give us your location to get contact for repair.

rebuild board of Thermal connections? that sounds dodgy.
In the best case you could have told you he had to replace the thermic sensor, if it is overheating.
When it is overheating usually TV shuts down completely.

Instead of refusing my solution you should have provided model as asked, to keep troubleshooting.

Now hope in good help from more experts.

Additionally when I am talking about a repairman I refer to a professional engineer working for a company, not a cowboy stealing your money. $300 is the fee for a good repair, not for an inspection ending with a guy selling you some rubbish.
Track down this guy company and get your money back to start.
    Then give us model details.

You get OSD starting, the tv starts up normally and picture goes off after a while, possible causes on rear projection tv:

    Most common cause:
Loss of high voltage section, providing power to picture projection tubes/ lamp.
You need to replace or repair high voltage generator that is failing.
A house call is $80 plus part price, for $200/$250 you can have the TV repaired.
This is not an easy fix, if you call an inexperienced repairman you can still get in trouble.
Call a repair shop in your town and tell them my diagnosys 9 on ten when you get picture going down that way it is high voltage problem, remaining 10% is board problem.
Board costs around $160 plus $80/$100 labor.

regarding thermal board, there is no such a part on a TV, as far as I know. What he should have worked on is testing the high voltage generator, this is quite a complex job and require the technician to work on tv with live power.
Not a task for home repairer or improvised engineers.

    Ginko Aug 22, 2008

Before giving up try to track down the Repairman that nicked your $350, see if he works for a shop.
Sometimes repair shops or company do not know what young repaimen do.
If he works for a company or a shop you can ask to get a better engineer or to have a refund.

Don't forget to vote my solution.

    Many thanks.

Sounds like the CRTs are going into protective blanking due to the vertical output ic needing to be resolderd. Try resoldering the vertical IC that may possibly fix the issue.
