If your getting "card locked" just with that camera, then it's likely the switch in the card slot is stuck. Try the toothpick fix listed in this link to unjam it.

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". There are also other common causes if moving the slide switch didn't help, with troubleshooting steps for this problem listed here.

My canon camera powershot SD 780 IS always shows "card locked" when I turn it on to take a picture even though I check to see that the card is not locked before inserting it in the...

Put a small piece of tape over the switch on the card and re-insert it. If the camera now functions properly, the "feeler" in the camera may be malfunctioning. Don't think the tape solution is a permanent fix....the tape will eventually come off inside the camera causing more problems.

When I turn on the Canon SD780, it says the card is locked. Have tried about 10 cards and it says "card locked" on all of them. Purchased a new card and I get the same message. Cannot reformat...

This seems to be a particular issue with this model camera, noted by the archived Fixya problems listing for this model. Noting that the slide switch doesn't seem to correct this problem (resulting in 4 thumbs up) for the majority, the only other possibility is that the corresponding switch internal to the camera might be gummed up. As such, please see the "toothpick fix" (Fix #4) of this link.

How to format an SD card on a Canon SD600 camera when the menu says "memory card locked." The memory card is in the unlocked position. When we put the SD card in another Canon camera (SD780 IS), it works...

Could be that you have the wrong memory card.
SD600 will only work with the old SD cards, but the SD780 will take the SDHC cards.
SDHC was intended to give 4gb or more of storage, while the old SD started as 16 mb.  Different cameras have different limits, but it is always best to assume that the practical limit on an SD card is 2mb.  Even if the SD780 will take the SDHC cards, it can be more practical to only carry 2GB SD cards and know that they will fit either camera

Canon A620 LCD shows "memory card locked" for each card I insert

This worked for me!  I have the Canon Powershot SD780 IS and although my card WAS NOT locked, the camera "malfunctioned" and the switch in the camera needed to be gently pushed back IN, not DOWN on my specific camera type.  This is great, I was just going to go out and buy another camera today!  Thanks for the post Stephan!

My camera says "Card locked!" all the time now even when it isn't

Remove the SD card from the camera. Slide the tiny switch on the side of the card to its other "unlocked" position. Reinsert the card in the camera.

But it sounds like you may have already tried this. If so, see this link for additional things that you can try.
