Simpletech external simple drive model 96300-40001-001--flashing blue light

Hi,
Last night we had a power outage due to Fay. I have an APS, my simple drive is connected to it and I was able to shut down properly. This AM I turned everything back on and my Simple Drive is flashing blue. After I disconnected the USB and turned it on still the flashing blue light. This IS my backup drive and EVERYTHING is on it and now I can't access it.

I don't know what to do. I've been in a hold cue with Simpletech for over an hour and still can't get in touch with tech support.

Please help. I hope I did not lose my life. I guess I will have to have backups of my backups of my backups.

Do you mean that you used this as a "Data" drive and do not have the data stored on your pc...

that is basically the same as having no backup... if it is important, store the data in more than one location.

it is possible that a power surge killed the usb adapter on your storage device.... you may be able to transplant the HDD onto a working adapter or USB->HDD bridge to get your data back

Hi

Thank you for your query

From the sound you are describing it looks like the drive has become faulty

Unfortunatley the only thing you can try as mentioned aboveis to take the actual drive out and wire it into another PC, but from the sound you are describing I think you may have the same problem

Simpletech hard drive not working

I have that problem similiar to yours. My simple tech stopped working for like two years so i decided to open up my simple tech and removed my HD away from the old enclosure so I can try building my own external hard drive for the first time. I bought another new 3.5 enclosure, IDE/ATA for the old HD. I put it in the new enclosure and it worked!

It's the only solution you can have. No need to retrieve data or re-format your HD. You can leave it the way you like...if you wanna reformat it...up to you.

Does simple tech 250 drive need an external power source?

Yes, you need a power supply. I have several USB peripherals that, in a similar way, APPEAR to be on when you plug them into USB. But that interface cannot supply enough power to actually run the machine. The maximum is 0.5 A * 5 V = 2.5 W. The wee portable drives can run on that power, but a normal desktop drive, such as is inside a full-size desktop external enclosure, use ~ 8 W.

So you need a DC power supply! I bet SimpleTech can tell you what the correct current, voltage, and polarity is. Good luck.
