Hi, I am trying to enter a cubed root for a graph, can you help me? I am not sure which key I should use to enter the cube for the root.

You can enter any root by typing the number, then hitting MATH and 5, which brings up the root symbol with the x in front of it: x√. So the fifth-root would be 5 -> MATH -> 5 and then whatever number you want to get the fifth-root for: 5x√10 for example. As someone else had mentioned, you can also raise it to a rational power: 3^(1/3) which would be the same as the cubed root of 3, but you could also type: 3 -> MATH -> 5 -> 3 and get the same answer, but looking like this in your calculator: 3x√3. The option for 4 actually is a predefined cubed-root, and the one for option 5 there is the root symbol that can be used with any number before it to get any root you want. There are no parenthesis as you get when using the predefined square-root and cubed-root functions, though, so you may want to type them in yourself if entering a long string of operations in the calculator at one time to make sure the calculator doesn't include numbers under the root that you don't want it to. But I guess it depends on preference in terms of what method you choose between the rational exponents or the root symbol (and most would go with whichever seems easiest and quickest to enter), but you asked specifically how to get the cubed-root on the TI-83 Plus, so there's my best attempt at answering your question.

Press MATH 4 to access the cube root function.

You can't simply enter 7x+9=30 into the calculator, there is a way to calculate what the x is but its been a few years since I've done these..

One way is to use the Polynomial Root Finder and Simultaneous Equation Solver app.

Press the APPS key, then select PlySmlt2 and press ENTER. Press ENTER to get past the opening screen, then select "POLY ROOT FINDER" and press ENTER. Select the order of the polynomial and other settings as desired. Press F5 (the GRAPH key) to go to the next screen. Enter the polynomial coefficients, then press F5 to solve. The next screen will show you the roots (unless you selected real roots and the polynomial doesn't have any real roots).

If the message appears when you try to graph functions deactivate the
statistical plots. To do so:

Press [2nd][Y=] to access (STAT PLOTs)

Select [4:PlotsOff] then [ENTER]

- Use the universal power key marked with [^].
- To avoid problems if the exponent is an expression, enclose it in parentheses.
- To enter any power type number^(exponent)
- If exponent is negative use the (-) change sign key next to the dot, below the 3 key.
- To calculate the roots (cubic, fourth, fifth, etc.) roots use the fact that a root of n-th order can be represented as ^(1/n)
- Ex: cube root of 27: 27^(1/3); square root of 64 : 64^(1/2) or 64^(0.5)

Sorry, but what you wrote is not an equation but a polynomial expression. You want to solve the equation x^4+5x^3-3x^2-43x-60 =0.

The solve( command, can only be used with real numbers.

The** solve(** is available through the CATALOG :
[2nd][CATALOG], scroll down till you reach the command. Highlight it
and press [ENTER]. The command echodes on main screen as **solve(** .

You complete the command by entering the expression (not the equation), the name of the variable you solve for, the initial guess , and { lower limit, upper limit} between curly brackets, and the closing parenthesis.

Exemple:

**solve (x^4+5x^3-3x^2-43x-60 ****, x,0 {-5,0} ) [ENTER]**

should give you the negative root,

**solve (x^4+5x^3-3x^2-43x-60 ****, x,0 {0,5} ) [ENTER]**

Hello,

Reset the memory to defaults and you will not get the error.

[2nd][MEM][7:Reset][Defaults] [2:Reset] [ENTER]. Press [CLEAR] and them [Y=] to enter the function. No need to set Zoom. Defaults work fine for y1= 4X+3.

Press [GRAPH].

If you want to take the nth root, enter the root first then press math 5 and then the number you are trying to take the root of. For example to take the 4th root of 1000, press 4, math, 5, 1000, enter.

you have one of your stat plots on that is what is messing it up. So either turn off the stat plots. Or just reset your calculator. hit 2nd then the plus (+) key then 7 then 1 then 2. Good luck
