Question about Televison & Video

I had a bad dvd, I thought I could fix it by changing the scan, so I changed the s-scan to p-scan in the set-up. Bad mistake. I now get no display to switch it back. Can it be fixed. Greg

While unit is powered and stopped, select “DVD/CD” as the source. Press and hold [■] (Stop) button on the main unit and [≥10] key on the remote control until “Initialized” disappears from the television. Turn the unit off and on again. All settings will return to the default values.
Since you mention that you can not see the menu on your TV's screen, then you won't be able to see the "initialized" disappear, so, give it a second try if the first fails or press and hold the keys for a little longer.....

Its convergence and rather common in this and similar sets ; look first in the customer menu, is the Convergence option still to be found? In these sets three parts fail that remove that option, there is a kit for this.l

The real area where all the problems seem to be is under the High Voltage transformer bad solder connections develop, the 3 parts in the kit for no display of Convergence (a diode, cap and what is essentially a fuse that does not look like one) are all right there also....If you do not know what the transformer looks like I will attach a photo of a typical one.

The board its on would have to be pulled out for soldering etc.

How do I go from 480p to 1080dpi on my 65inch HDTV

If you're using an HDMI cable your display will automatically adjust the settings based upon the video source. Make sure that your source is capable of outputting 1080p. If it's an HD Cable Box or DVR, the maximum resolution it can display is 1080i. If you have one of these HD boxes, set it to only display 1080i as there will be a delay every time you change channels from a channel that is not naturally at 1080i.
If your source is a standard DVD player, it can only display images in 480i (or 480p if it is Progressive Scan) and therefore your TV will display the picture in 480 resolution. If your source is an upconverting DVD player it will display up to 1080p however, Keep in mind that DVD's are in 480 resolution and that regardless of upconversion (or upscaling, though improved, the picture will not be in HD.
The only way to achieve a true 1080p (not dpi... that's dots per inch... that's a printer term. The "p" is for Progressive Scan as opposed to an "i" for Interlaced) is from a 1080p source, i.e., a Blu-Ray disc player playing a Blu-Ray Disc with the use of an HDMI cable. Component Cables can achieve 720p/1080i only with your TV as it does not support 1080p over component cables.
As an aside, there are some media players that support 1080p output and some DirecTV Boxes and DVR's d oas well for 1080p Pay Per View movies.

If this set is a PTK169 chassis, you could have bad tuning capacitors in the horizontal for the Horizontal yoke return and pincushion circuit. I would suggest that only a professional diagnose and repair it due to the circuit it is.
Hope this helps,

Mitsubishi WS-65807 + PS3 1080i Screen goes blank when bright white displayed

Go to PS3 / Display settings. Set superbright OFF, even if you don't have HDMI. Set Cross Color Reduction to OFF. Set Display to only one resolution, not all of them as you probably have it now. Set it ot the highest possible resolution and uncheck all other boxes. The 480i is always on by default. The issue, which was very annoying, was fixed for me. I have a mitsubishi 65 inch RP that is pretty bright on daytime/sunlight scenes, so I never thought it was the PS3, but only whet the PS3 was used did this occur. I scanned this site via google to find that nobody else appeared to have resolved this. So after some changes and testing this solution worked for me. Enjoy! - Dave Walz

P.S. I think the only real fix was to set just one display resolution, but I am now watching a movie and am not going to stop it to find out. :) That's for whomever follows this posting to find out for themselves. Either way, this is working great.
