Question about Goodman Heating & Cooling

3 Answers

I have a Goodman GMPN120-5 unit where it works for 10-15 second and the blower turns off. After a few minutes it starts again and shuts off. The compressor continues to run though. Any suggestions?

    Thanks koolbreezes,
With your response I decided to check the heater operation also. When I run the heater it works just fine. Is there some other sensor or something else that would tell the blower motor to turn off? Also does the exhaust fan only operate when the heater runs? Thanks again for your help.

Bad circuit board... and yes to the vent motor fan.

Posted on Aug 25, 2008

Hey, with more informations comes less questions. Judging from your answer, the only answer is a bad circuit board.. do you have an a.c. repairman friend.. If he buys it, then it cost between $75--170.00 ,If you buy it it cost between $300--400..and yes the draft blower motor does as it says create a draft..Back in the-day, they relyed on natural temperature of the draft or flue gas to provide fresh air as it leaves the chamber, now they have a mechancal fan toremove burnt gas and **** in fresh air...Thank-you-very much!

This could be a bad motor, you know those things do happens! It will run till it gets hot and tripps out on internal overload , which reset whens its cools down.!

Furnace turns on but no blower, furnace turns off in a few minutes.

I am not familiar with this unit but It sounds like the thermal switch that turns on the blower (bonnet control) has failed. There is also a safety that will shut it down if it does not detect the appropriate air flow in a short time. You can check here for more information on the blower: http://www.tommark.com/FascoDraftInducerCrossReferenceGuide.pdf

check your air filter, a very dirty filter will cause the unit to over heat "180'" The burners turn off the unit cools itself with the blower and then relights.

My burners turn on for 2 minutes then shut down for 30 seconds, then turn on again while repeating this process.

Have you checked the air filter? Also make sure the room air blower turns on to distribute the heat throughout the house.

First I would suggest that you replace the start capacitor on your blower motor but if it is running for awhile that makes me wonder if the thermal overload is shutting your motor off. You can replace the start capacitor and then if it starts as it's supposed to and then shuts off you'll know the motor needs replaced also. I hope this helps you . THanks

I would check hot surface ignitor or spark ignitor to make sure they are working. If not then replace them and try again. If ignitor does not come on control board will shut down, try to restart usually try 4-5 times then lock. out. Generally for a preset time then try again. If it has tried to start to many times and failed it will lockout until power is shut off and it can reset. Hope this helps you. Thanks

Limit Switch

It is rare that a limit switch goes bad. It is a safety control. If it is shutting off your furnace there is a problem that it is protecting you from.
If the limit switch is shutting the unit down your furnace is overheating. Check the filters. Check for any obstruction in the blower assembly. Check to see if you can raise the blower speed. Make sure all registers are open in the house. Your evaporator coil could be obstructed if you do not take good care of your filters.

Blower starts ans stops

Your system has a number of blowers and fans. Are you refering to the "Room Air Blower"? If so, at what point does it start? 30 seconds after you turn the air on, 1 minute, etc...? Does it ever come back on? The more you help us with information, the more we can help you!

It sounds like the blower motor has burnt up.(the one inside) The unit running for a few minutes then shutting off, is due to the high pressure/temperature safeties. When you removed the panels, did you notice any fan running?
