Just found a solution to this problem (conveniently hidden on unlucky page 13 of the user manual). This means that your TV is in store mode... it refreshes every so often and changes to the different inputs to show store viewers the quality of different inputs.

First, go to Menu - Setup - Advanced Setup and make sure that the "Auto power on" is set to "No." Turn the TV off and unplug it. Plug it back in. Press and HOLD the power button on the TV (not the remote). Hold for 2-3 seconds or so... you'll hear a few clicks. Release the button, then press it. The first thing that pops up should be, "Select viewing environment." Make sure you select "Home." Continue with setup from there.

Voila!

Is the PT50LC13 a digital TV? I didn't buy a converter box thinking that the TV didn't need one, but over time and unable to see any channel even with one, I wonder if the TV is indeed digital or not. I...

This tv only has an analog tuner (NTSC). That is why it works with cable and dvds. You will need a converter box to view OTA signals. (In addition, digital signals have a firm cut-off of signal strength; if the tuner doesn't get enough signal the channel will not be available.) So check with antennaweb.org or tvfool.com for details on the antenna direction for your area channels. antennaweb is very conservative in the channel listing it provides (even with the assumption of an external antenna). tvfool gives the color specifications of the antenna that should receive a given set of channels in your area.

The converter boxes are still available from select vendors but the government coupons program is not. Here's one that is listed as in stock: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3150939&CAWELAID=198809366 . This is one of the standard definition output boxes. High Definition digital to analog converters also exist but are more expensive.

A cheap alternative may be to use a PC TV tuner (either USB or internal card) attached to the antenna and then output to the TV. This TV has a VGA port. (If you want to use component video in on the TV, you will need to check if your video card will support the non-RGB signal or a converter box for that.)

I wish that I could be of more help.

My panasonic projection tv is showing green spots what could be causing this problem.

If you have colored ~1" spot(s) it is most probably associated with EPROM (memory chip) defect. In that case the TV internal computer should be reprogrammed by a certified technician. They fixed mine that I bought in 2006 (4 years) ago FOR FREE.

I called Panasonic using the phone number in the manual (1-888-843-9788), selected Service, told that I got the problem which is most probably "a manufacturer's defect" that should be fixed for free - they redirected me to the next step, then to the next one and in about 20 minutes they arranged me a home-visit by a support person (the guy had to drive 2 hours to get here!).
The service guy came in two days, unscrewed the back panel, connected some kind of a box to one of the boards, turned TV onto some channel and let the box do its job for about 5 minutes - then all of a sudden the spots disappeared and the picture is OK now.

Just connected our directv hd receiver to the tv via component cables, because we just bought a blue ray player and the only output for that is HDMI and since there is only 1 DVI input we had to change the...

You may be able the settings of your directTV box to stop frustrating you. If you help me identify the model you are using, I can research the proper menu choices you will need to choose to select the correct features. There are many different directTV set-top boxes available.

My own home theater setup did the same thing, and my solution was to use component cables from the PVR instead of HDMI cables. It is too bad your blu-ray doesn't allow for this configuration.

My work-around until I realized that using different interconnects fixed the problem, was to turn the TV off and then on again whenever switching from HD to non-HD sources. This fixed my problem, maybe it will fix yours.

I hope that helps.

Trying to program cineplus remote for panasonic dvd player

Try this as all remotes work about the for manual setting.
Here you go. This will work with most all universal remote controls. If you don't have the code do the following:
Automatic Programming
With automatic programming, the remote control tests all the codes available on the Code List and assigns the correct code for the selected device. Although this method can be more time-consuming, it eliminates the need to look up codes and enter them manually.

1. Turn off the device with which you want to use the remote control.

2. Press and hold the corresponding button on the remote control
(TV, VCR, SAT, DVD, CAB or AUD) until POWER INDICATOR illuminates. It should take a couple of seconds for the light to remain solid. The remote control is in programming mode.

3. Press and release power button. The POWER INDICATOR flashes once and stays on indicating the unit is in Power Scan mode.

4. Press CHANNEL up or CHANNEL down repeatedly until the device turns on.

5. When the device turns on, press OK to store the code.

Note:
• To exit without storing the code, press BACK.
• T he unit will search for the next code or the previous code if you press
CHANNEL up or CHANNEL down after the device turns on. (go slow you need to press OK when the TV turns on) if you mess up turn TV off and start over.
6. Press any other button. If the device responds, the remote control has been programmed. If the device does not respond, repeat steps 2-5.

IT HAS A GREEN SPOT IN THE UPPER CORNNER

Got the same problem with same TV (PT-61-LCX65) that was bought 4 years ago in 2006 - first red spot appeared, then few weeks ago got green one nearby. Fixed it for free.
Everything went _very_ smoothly, I am very satisfied with Panasonic's support, it was just one call with few redirections.
The service guy came in two days, unscrewed the back panel, connected some kind of a box to one of the boards (eprom programmer?), turned TV onto some channel and let the box do its job for about 5 minutes - then all of a sudden the spots disappeared and the picture is OK now. The service guy told me that the overall picture quality should have been also improved all across the screen, I guess TV sends some kind of feedback to that box for optimization.
It was a free service, the service guy mentioned something about law action and that Panasonic is required to fix that for free.

CANNOT TURN OFF CLOSED CAPTION ON 52" JVC TV

Does it use a cable box or are you using the tuner in the TV?

If you're using the tuner in the TV, try unplugging it for 5 minutes and then plug it back in, do a new channel scan and see if the CC goes away. If not, contact JVC to find out how to reset it. If it still does not work, you might need to have your main board replaced.

If you're using an external tuner plugged into a video input port (such as a cable box or satellite box) then the external box is at fault since TVs don't have CC available through their composite or component or svideo or hdmi ports.

Toshiba 62hx94 cant shut off closed caption have comcast cable How do I turn off closed caption on my TV. It suddenly turned on.

if the tv is not hd then the control is on your tv.
However if the comcast box is an hd box do the following;
Press cable, then power and then with 2 seconds press the red menu button to get the hidden hd user setup menu. You may have to hit the menu button multiple times to get the menu to stay up on the tv.
Next go down to closed captions which is probably enabled, and hit the left or right arrow key to change it to disabled.
Then press the power button twice to turn the box off and back on.

Why is there a long delay changing channels on my new Sanyo HDTV?

Are you connected to a cable box from your cable TV service Provider and use this device to select the channel you want to view? I have an HDTV which has the QAM tuning feature. Changing channels was instant until I accepted an offer from Cablevision for a 1 year rent free box and remote combo. The tuning box is a digital & analog Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4200 HD with a card slot for your subscription specs. This bypasses the tuner in your TV and the TV functions as a monitor.

If this is similar to what you have and you don't care about the channel/current program on screen display that appears for several seconds before the channel selection completes, perhaps the cable co. can adjust your box to supress this display if it will speed up the channel selection.

There is another annoying problem with this box. If you have a fraction of a second ac power interruption which might not even cause your computer to reboot, the cable box goes into a reinitialization that could take 5 minutes or longer. In my opinion, it is not worth the $6.50 per month charge we will receive when the year is up.
