Re: Unit will not come
Check the rear of the unit. This means partial removal of the unit... but that's usually where the fuse will be! (and make sure there isn't also an in-line fuse along the yellow wire around the back somewhere)
If the fuse is definitely fine, then unplug the power to the unit (both red and yellow) for a good 10 minutes. This often "unblocks" some safety shut-offs with some headunits.

Most likely the battery has died - not just as in out of charge, but has lost the ability to hold a charge at all. This happens to rechargable batteries, and the thing to do is to replace the battery with a new one.
Unfortunately the XNAV3550 has an "integrated" battery, meaning you'd have to open the case (and void your warrenty) to replace it yourself. If the unit is still under warranty, contact Dual for a replacement. If the warranty has expired, then you might (if you're comfortable doing so) open the unit and see if the battery is easily replaceable. Otherwise I'm afraid you're out of luck. :-(
well if its rental at least you might not have to pay for repairs. it could be the audio chip. But just to ensure that you didnt accidently mute the unit see if the speaker icon has a red X over it and then take it off.
Low battery can also interfere with voice so ensure its fully charged leaving it in a hot car can also damage chips (we uasually ask if they had fish with it (chips) as heat in cars melts many items incliuding silicon chips.
Question: Why won't my StreetPilot c3xx poweron?
Found on the Garmin web site -->
If your StreetPilot does not poweron, or if it turns on then turns off, you can troubleshoot the problem by resetting or charging the unit. The reset is a "soft" reset that you can perform in the car; it restores power to the unit, but it does not remove data.
To reset the unit:
Place the unit in the cradle and roll it backwards slightly to lock it in place.
With the key in the car ignition, turn on the unit or put it in accessory mode.
On the face plate of the unit, put your thumb nail in the groove under the Garmin logo and gently pull off the face plate.
With the face plate removed, press the reset button on the right side.
Turn the unit back on. If the unit still doesn'tpoweron, you may need to charge it.
To charge the unit:
Using the provided USB cable, connect the device to the computer.
Reset the unit (following instructions above).
Keep the device connected to the computer and allow it to charge overnight (7-8 hours).
After charging, unplug the unit and power it on.
//changed this line from 'solution1description.innerHTML' to use getElementById
//to prevent FF warnings. They both appeared to work, but this is cleaner.
solution = document.getElementById('solution1description').innerHTML;

Check your battery symbol.
On mine, the battery is dead (or mechanically disconneced inside).
You need to reset the unit by pressing the tiny button on the back.
Problem is that when you remove the unit from the charging stand, the dead battery does not allow you to press the reset button. (Pressing the reset button with no battery cannot reset the unit)
IF you could press the reset button while plugged into the charger, you could get you unit working again. But..alas, the design of the unit prohibits you from doing so.
Chances are if you fix the battery problem, you will have a usable unit again.
