I was using my camera today, for about a week the power button has been a bit dodgy, I have taken photographs today, but now cannot switch the camera off, there is a picture on the screen. I have removed the battery but do not think this is the problem...any ideas...thanks.

You can fix it with a small piece of tape inside the unit where the memory card goes. Just look inside for a sensor or a small button, and try pressing it down yourself. If that works, then maybe a slip of tape over that spot would fool the camera into thinking the cover is closed. If this is not fixing your problem take your camera to Olympus as this problem involves some built in mechanism troubleshooting.
Have you made any changes to the settings? Check the ISO, picture quality (should be at highest setting), white balance, etc. You could also go into the setup menu and find the "reset" entry to reset back to default factory settings.
Hello mcginnty and zeekachu. Here's your link. Olympusamerica.com or Consumer Division Tech Dept. 800-622-6372 8 AM through 10 PM EST Monday through Friday. Outstanding customer support. ( rare in this day and age )
Also make sure you go to the FE-280 site at the above link and register your camera. Olympus will extend your warranty by one month and give you a discount on any accessories. Regards, Paul
When you purchased the camera, there should have been a charge in the box (you got a lithium-ion rechargable battery with the camera, no?). You put the battery in the charger and plug the charger in the wall.
