Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Unable to download pdf file

With a considerable version of adobe acrobat reader, I am unable to download or even open pdf files from the internet.
I can still open pdf files that has been previously saved (or downloaded from another pc), but I cannot download a pdf file with this computer. This is a pentium 4 Acer travelmate 270 laptop, I waited for some time when I was trying to download a pdf file on this computer considering that our broadband connection run between 24 to 54 mbps and with a pentium 4 processor. Yet, I was unable to. I tried it a few times again, but has still the same problem.

what actions can be done on this matter? was there a glitch on installing the software? To tell everyone honestly, i really don't know the reason because I haven't modified the pertinent softwares on this computer or reinstalled adobe acrobat reader. I noticed this problem when I tried to download pdf files a couple of weeks ago because I don't download pdf files with this computer but only open pdf files with it, considering its processor's speed. I cannot tell if this has been a problem long time ago because it was just its initial pdf downloading activity a few weeks ago. This is not the case with our other home pc. I can read and download pdf files with it even with a adobe acrobat version 5 only. Now I'm consulting this to everyone to check in this case as soon as possible.

thank you so much!

You need to update your reader. Go to the site and locate the dowlnload file for the latest version

Uninstall your current reader.

Turn off all running programs including your virus control while you download and install the new software.

Restart your computer.

How do i download Adobe Acrobat x Standard for Free?

Acrobat reader is free. Acrobat pro is not free.
There are other free programs to create PDF's. Really, Adobe is offering the readers for all systems for free. Be aware sometimes PDF files are password protected. You even can't read them with acrobat reader, if you don't have the password. Just visit the Adobe website to download a free version for your system.
Now you can get the 11 version here:

Unable to download pdf file

Uninstall all Adobe software what ever version you have, than go to start>search>all files and folders, select local hard drive if it is not, than click more advanced options, select first three things in the list and than type adobe in All or parts of the file name. When it finds folders and files select them all and press DELETE. Than empty your Recycle Bean and restart your computer once it is up download new Adobe installation file and install it again. I know that this is pain but you will have to get rid of all damaged files used by adobe reader.

Swrflash.ocx could have affected some programs

Try downloading the latest version of Adobe Flash Player, Shockwave Player and Adobe Reader (Acrobat 8).

Some pages created with later versions of Acrobat will not run on earlier versions.

Also, some Acrobat pages from links on web pages have problems loading.... try saving the file first (eg: right click on the link, select Save Target As) then open from the saved file.

Hope this helps.
