Hello.

If the Administrator password was never created, it is blank. So, just leave the password area blank and press the Enter (or Next) key.

Hope this helps.

Don't worry - it happens to a lot of people.

Vista and Windows 7 allow you to create a password reset disk.If you installed Windows XP, boot up Windows XP in Safe Mode and log on with the built-in administrator account.

How to Reset Windows Password on ThinkPad Laptop

For IBM ThinkPad Laptop or Lenovo <a href="http://windowspasswordrecovery.net/">ThinkPad password reset</a>, there are common password problems about the BIOS password, Power-on password, Hard drive password, etc. Here we will discuss how to reset ThinkPad password based on Windows 7, XP, Vista, Server 2003, 2008 domain, etc.<br /> <br />Firstly, <b>ThinkPad password</b><b> reset</b><b> with password reset disk<br /></b>Well, the first way is the most time saving and money saving to recover lost ThinkPad password. Pity that most of ThinkPad laptop users may without this named ThinkPad password reset disk. Notice that we should create the disk before lost or forgotten password or at the time that we set the password for logon Windows system. The below are steps to create and use the <a href="http://windowspasswordrecovery.net/article/reset-windows-7-password-with-4-easy-ways.html">Windows 7 password reset disc</a> for ThinkPad Windows 7 laptop:<br /> 1. Insert a CD/DVD/USB Flash Drive into the driver. <br /> 2. Click Start - Control Panel - User Accounts and Family Safety - User Accounts.<br /> 3. Select "Create a password reset disk" - "Forgotten Password Wizard" on the left pane.<br /> 4. Click "Next" and follow the Wizard to create password reset disk.<br /> Once we forgot Win 7 password for ThinkPad computer at the login screen and input an incorrect password, click "Reset Windows Password" and insert the password reset disk. The Password Reset Wizard will lead us create a new password to remove the lost or forgotten Windows 7 password.<br /> <br />Secondly, <b>unlock ThinkPad Windows XP password with Windows Installation Disc<br /></b>1. Start PC with Installation disc. Choose "Accept" once it asks to repair your current Windows installation, press "R" to run repair and also allow PC to repair by copying files to hard drive.<br /> 2. The PC will reboot, and then display "Press any key to continue." Please do not press any key.<br /> 3. Let computer restart the installation and at the same time please notice the words shown at the bottom of screen. Once "Installing Devices" comes up, press "Shift +F10".<br /> 4. Then input "nusrmgr.cpl" and press "Enter".<br /> 5. On the User Accounts windows, choose the "Administrator account". Then there will be listed all user accounts of the system.<br /> 6. Select the account that has to remove or reset password.<br /> With Installation CD to break ThinkPad password also can be used on system based on Windows 7, Vista, 2000, Server 2008, etc.<br /> <br />Thirdly, <b>reset ThinkPad administrator password</b> by accounts with administrative rights<br />Only the accounts with administrative privileges can help us reset lost password, the built-in administrator account included. Now, take <b>ThinkPad XP password recovery in Safe Mode</b> as example:<br /> 1. Press F8 once IBM ThinkPad laptop starts. Select "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" and Enter.<br /> 2. At the login screen with computer user accounts, choose an available account to login. Please note that the built-in Administrator account password is blank if never set password for it before.<br /> 3. In Safe Mode, Dos command displays. Input "net user" and press Enter to list all the user names in Windows XP computer. Then input "net user Susan 123" (Susan is the locked account name and 123 is the new password set on this account) and press Enter. Then we will see "The command completed successfully."<br /> 4. Input "shutdown -r" and press Enter to restart the system, then we can access "Susan" account in normal logon mode.<br /> <br />If the above methods still can not help us <a href="http://windowspasswordrecovery.net/">reset ThinkPad password</a> or make us feel difficult to operate without some techniques, we can opt for some professional Windows Password Recovery tool or software. Such as <a href="http://windowspasswordrecovery.net/"><u>Ainorsoft Windows Password Recovery</u></a>, it has Basic, Enhance and Corporation three different versions for computer basic on Windows 7, XP, Vista, Server 2003, Server 2008, R2, etc. Especially, <b>Windows Password Recovery Corporation</b> has large amounts of faithful users. With the Windows Password Recovery software, users can solve Windows password problem within minutes without special techniques!<br /> <i><br /></i><br /><i>Source</i>: http://windowspasswordrecovery.net/article/thinkpad-password-reset.html<br />

T42 gets message"NTLDR" not available. Tried to

Don't try loading windows with out fixing the NTLDR...Try this simple steps in recovery console,

  • Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD drive, and then restart the computer.
  • Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD drive if you are prompted.
  • When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
  • Press 1 (One) to select windows XP and then hit enter.
  • When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
  • At the command prompt, start typing

COPY D:\i386\ntldr C:\ (Considering that D is your CD Rom Drive)
COPY D:\i386\ntdetect C:\ (a file that may also be missing)

  • Then rebuild the boot configuration boot.ini file by
Attrib -H -R -S C:\boot.ini (if not found skip the next line)
    DEL C:\boot.ini
    BootCfg /Rebuild

    Note:

Do not use the repair option in the recovery console.

Or, if you can get into XP, even safe mode, you can arrange to bypass the
password by the following registry change:

Click on Start then click run and type Regedit. Navigate to the key mentioned below,
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Setup\RecoveryConsole
Set the DWORD Security Level value to 1

Hope this helps

I forgot my password for my ibm thinkpad, what i kind i do can i reboot my laptop, how can i do it.!!

If you have another account on your laptop that has administrator rights, log in into that account and change the password for your account. If you have an administrator account (even if you don't try putting in Administrator and leave password field blank) try using that account to reset the password, otherwise try one of the following:
- see this for XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321305
- or this for Vista/Win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/What-to-do-if-you-forget-your-Windows-password
- or if anything else didn't work you can use thrid party software from Hiren's Boot CD http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/Hirens.BootCD.12.0.zip

I am getting a blue scree error on my IBM Thinkpad R51 that says unmountable_Boot_Volume. It will not let me run on save mode...it brings me back to the blue scree error message. I have windows xp

Unmountable boot volume = The file system is damaged and cannot be mounted.
To fix that do the following:
1.Put the CD first in the boot order and boot from the XP install disk.
2.When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3.Select your partition - it should be C
4.When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5.At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r , and then press ENTER.
6.At the command prompt, type exit , and then press ENTER to restart your computer.
This takes a bit longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.

I have a thinkpad t20 and a 570e, both with

The IBM Recovery Disk that comes with those laptops is set up for Windows 2000, not Windows XP Pro. The answer is No, you cannot use the IBM Recovery Disk for them, if you install Windows XP Pro.

However! You will have a recovery disk, because you will have the Full Installation disk for Each laptop. Windows XP Pro Full Installation Disk.

(Microsoft Users License states "One genuine copy of Windows per One computer" That means you need Two, genuine copies of Microsoft Windows XP Pro)

Thinkpad r50

The Power On Password problem is near impossible to crack. It is designed to prevent unauthorized access to the Thinkpad and removing the BIOS battery will not remove the password because the password is stored on an EEPROM chip.
There are no backdoor passwords available, the only option is to ask the person who set the password.
OR
There is a way to hack into the Thinkpad to see and remove the password but it requires electronic skills, a program and a working computer.
For details on how to do this go to :-
