You might be able to get a recovery CD from the manufacturer instead of where you bought the computer. For E-Machines you can go to https://secure.tx.acer.com/RCDB/Main.aspx?brand=eMachines and enter the serial number of your unit to get information on ordering recovery media. The recovery cd will have a factory image of the hard drive on it eliminating the need for an actual Vista CD.
some pc's have a recovery option when you first turn it on, maybe by pressing F11. This will give you an option to restore to factory settings. Follow the instructions. If you don't have a recovery option you may be able to buy the recovery discs from the pc manufacturer.
If the pc doesn't have the recovery options, you need to reinstall windows from the windows disc. If you don't have a windows disc you will need to buy one from your local retailer or on-line store. Most pc's that don't have recovery discs will prompt you to make them when you first turn the machine on.
The recovery CD comes with the computer when it's new. You might contact Best Buy to see if they have one they can reload your computer with, or maybe they can order you one from E-Machines. Another option is to get updated drivers online. Some sites have some free driver downloads, and some you have to pay to have them update your computer. I would try Best Buy first, I used to be a tech at one of their stores and they used to keep spare CD Recovery Disks for their tech service. Good luck...
Just log onto hp.com and chat with a tech. They will find the recovery disk you need, take your credit card info and ship it to you. This will be safer than trying to buy one on ebay. This should cost you about 30.00.
If it is a newer one you may have onboard if not and you have a licence sticker still ring acer and give them the licence number they will send you a recovery disc/s not sure if they charge for it or not, or if you have a licence sticker you can just go buy xp or whatever you have and use that you should get a new licence for the program to. Or you could get a freind to burn a copy of their recovery disc/s if same as your laptop only thing is you could not use it online.(as is concidered a pirated copy for obvious reasons) Best bet would be to buy new copy of program and do a system restore
