SOURCE: Hello from New Zealand,

You can boot from original Windows disk but make sure you choose to repair installation. This will replace all the windows files but will not touch any of your personal data, programs or drivers installed. After youve done this repair install you should be able to start windows and get yourself an external hard drive and back up all data. Maybe then do a complete format and reload operating system to get your laptop running like brand new again. I dont know why your IT specialist has never tried this? Hope this all works fine for you ....... cheers from Scott

Slowness like this is a sign of bad sectors. Run Western Digitals Data Lifeguard diagnostic utility to confirm.

When i plug my disk drive to my lap top,it is unreadable and IO error will appear.please note that there is right click option. Do you have any idea how can retrieve it?thank you in advance

The board that connects the external disk to the USB port on the laptop has failed. The only way to try to recover the data is to dismantle the casing, extract the actual hdd from within it, connect it directly inside a desktop pc and attempt to access it from there.
If it fails even then the defect is in the controller of the hdd itself - the disk is dead, the data is lost.

The unit is defective. Your only chance of recovering the data is to dismantle the external case, extract the actual hard disk from it and put it in a desktop. If the disk is not recognized even there then the disk is dead and all the data on it is lost.

I have a maxtor external hard drive how do i recovery software

Hi ,
The best way I can think to recover your data is to extract the HDD from it's box ( box will be lost ) and connect the drive directly inside your desktop .
You could also try a recovery tool , from here for instance http://www.geckoandfly.com/3163/crashed-hard-drive-hard-disk-data-recovery-software-tools-and-service/
Best regards .

Samsung HDD does not get detected any more. I have very important data and want the data to be recovered at worst case. HDD is old one and makes strange sound when connected. Even if I connect it in...

Try to connect it as a master. Just connect this hdd only, so we can know if is detected in the bios. If yes then there's a possibility that you can recover your data. If you hear clicking noise/strange sounds then there's also a big chance that your hdd is broken. If it is detected in the bios, then remove it again and try using an external casing so you can put this hdd in it and connect it to your pc thru usb. I assume that your hdd is an ide and not sata since it's old as you say. Then to go to windows and see if your hdd in external casing is detected. Another option is that if it is detected in the bios, use a bootable cd with software apps for Hard disk tools like HDD Regenerator or HDAT2 to check and repair bad sectors on your hdd. Use this at your own risk and may destroy all data on your hard drive. If noe of this works, then you can assume that your HDD is not functioning anymore.

Connected IDE Drive does not mount on desktop

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this program to recover your files.

External HDD are similar to the normal internal HDD, only difference is that The physical harddrive is only place into the casing with usb terminal port so you can remove the physical HDD. Your casing's usb terminal may be damaged. Borrow a casing for a external usb HDD from a friend that is working and use it to extract your data to a PC. Hope it helps.

Seagate FreeAgent External 500GB HDD - Data Recovery

well firstly if u wana recover ur data u have to make the external hdd power up but thats the major area of issue that its not powering up. the difference in plug doesnt make a difference cuz u can use the same plug, the voltage is same thorugh out in ur place from the substation. so it might be a possibility that when u connected ur hdd,the power ON/OFF switch was awredy ON IF hdd has one. so wat i feel is dat u can try opening the hdd and then connect the hdd to ur desktop with help of the BUS CABLE used to connect the HDDs in desktops. so in dat case i would suggest that u go through the manual of ur external hdd to see how to access the the casing in which the hdd is there.then if u happen to get thorugh n it turns on then u dont have to recover ur data. it would still be there. HOWEVER,its recommended that u dont try these things personaaly if u are'nt too tech savy. u shud consult a tech or a freind who knows abt this.

Smartdisk Firelite model USBFLB40-c - not recognising - stored data recovery

Most likely the vacuum and not the ants. The vacuum could have given it a dangerous charge or vibration. You may need to extract the drive from the enclosure. It possible ( hopefully) that the enclosures bridge board failed instead of the drive. When you extract the drive, you will see....its construction is made well, and can stand up to crittters..
