I got a targus charger with a lot of charger tips with it. I found the one that works and it has been working for a while. Today i was on my laptop and it died. I noticed that the charger wasn't in. So i plugged it in. And it wasn't working. The blue light on the charger wasn't on. So i unplugged it from my computer and wall. Then plugged it back into the wall. The light came on. Once i plugged it into the computer the light shut off and it did't charger. I cleaned the tip and the computer part. It still didn't work. I have two of the same laptops and it didn't work for either one. So i know that it can't be the computer. I was wondering what it was and if i could fix it?

Check to see if the charger tip is obstructed, dirt etc, check for fraying or a kink in the wire at either the charging tip or the wall plug. you can attempt to open it up to rewire it, i would recommend using caution, it sounds like as you got them in a pack of multiple chargers that it would be best to simply replace it.

Persario/HP charger scam

Remove the battery before you plug in the charger/adapter and see what it will do. It can't recognize a battery mode if there is no battery. Maybe the charger you are using is not appropriate: different voltage, wrong polarity, the tip is not in contact with the plug terminals, or the circuit is not closed to allow the passage of current.
Rocketfish, Targus , and a few others, manufacture universal chargers that work with may laptop makes and models.

I surely hope your laptop is not damaged, but be sure and have it checked before charging it again anywhere.
That is because it might have caused the problem.
Then, have the charger tested to see if it is still good, or must be replaced.
God bless your efforts.

the problem is the BIOS of the Dell system is looking for an ID signal from the AC adapter so it knows what adapter is connected. If the BIOS cannot ID the power supply, then battery charger is disabled.

You will need to get a Dell AC adapter.

Targus 70watt adapter

Mine was brand new and it worked for 2 days then started doing that. I know it's not my laptop. I work in a computer shop and I tested it several different ways. I think it may be a faulty capacitor. either way, you just have to replace it. That's what I am doing. I would suggest the same.

Dell Inspiron 1000

Try another AC adapter - Those use a simlar charger to a lot of toshiba and compaq notebooks - something in the 18.5-19v and 3-4a range will work or a universal targus/kensington kit.

If a different adapter does't do it then you may have a power jack that has broken on the inside of the laptop. Normally about $100-$150 repair - get a recommendation from someone for a local repair shop that has had a laptop repaired (ideally for this same problem) There is a wide variation in the quality of techs that work on laptops.
