There is a lot that can effect this. To give you a good answer I'll need more information.

  1. What type of router are you attaching to
  2. What type of wireless device are you using
  3. What Operating system and is this a laptop
  4. Are you on a company network using WEP
That said...

You may need to change the wireless software to be managed by Windows and not the 3rd party software or vice versa. Different wireless routers work better or worse with different products. You may also need to enter the WEP key if you are using one as it's hash value and not as the word/words you setup. Also keep in mind that some wireless devices like the Netgear USB, can not operate well as a service and will not initialize as a result until after you are logged in. This means on a domain for example, you will have to log into the network at least once on a LAN line before you will be able to attach over wireless.

You can not just GET wireless access by asking for it, lol. What you need to do is find wireless hot spots in your area or purchase a device like a USB router for a monthly fee, like Clear wireless service. Try checking out this site, it's a wi-fi locator.

Local area connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration

It sounds like you found a solution elsewhere because you didn't reply to the three people who asked for more information.

You can close this problem if you wish to by saying YES.

Connecting wireless with AOL dialup

you will have to open up your network connections to check the state of your internet connection
click start control panel network connections this may vary depending on your operating system look for local area connection if you see a red x or a yellow exclamation or question mark ! ? you will need to update or install the driver or it could be fire walled

make sure your isp provider is allowed in your firewall settings
your network adapter might not work, and you do not have network connectivity or any related network functionality.

hope this helps you

Network Connections missing icon. Plus others problems.

XP tags "Local Area Connection #" with your Network Adapter. If you have a built-in LAN, it will take Local Area Conn 1" and when you disabled it and plugged in a new network adapter, it will be named Local Area Conn 2 and so on in that pattern. Your Local Area Connection will only be back when you plug the original Network adapter that XP tagged as Local Area Connection. It is not "variable" where you can choose how to name it.

WPC54G wont install power light is on

The problem is that the PCI slot/socket where the wireless adapter is snapped/connected is not not compatible with the adapter. I suppose that the adapter is more more faster than than socket so it can hardly function as it should. I recommend that you return the adapter and get a slower version of the adapter. Make sure that the drivers are properly installed by removing/uninstalling any previous software from the system.

My USB device is no longer recognized

Seen this happen many times...it stems from a corruption of the plug and play drivers enumeration key in the registry...the fix is quite elusive...the key is cheap...pick a different brand to replace it with save yourself the grief of fighting this battle. Hope that helps.

Hi, I have seen this type of thing B4, & it sounds to me as if your USB WiFi has gone faulty? Really the ONLY way to check is to try another USB WiFi unit.
