Question about Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO (F5D9230-4) Router (1010835)

1 Answer

Can't reach 192.168.2.1 after securing the connection

After installing the router F5D9230 to my laptop using a wired connection I secured the connection using WPA2-PSK. Disconnecting the cable I can use my wireless connection without any problems (internet works fine), however... I am not able to approach the router on it's IP-adress using the wireless connection! Belkin support doesn't know how to solve the problem other than resetting the router (thereby losing the secured connection) or using a wired connection (which is exactly what I don't want to do!). Also BitTorrent seems to have a problem with opening a port (telling me I need to open it manually, which can only be achieved through.... you guessed it, the router's setup page!)... Someone help me out please?

Thanks, Marvin

This is very doable.  However, the way Belkin does it is not quite as secure as other companies (my linksys has an option to allow wireless devices).  What has to be done is you have to allow your router to be managed remotely.  When this is enabled you can just enter in your router's IP address and in you are.

First, hardwire back into your router and login as you normally do.  Under utilities click System Settings.  Check Any IP address can remotely manage....

Below it you'll notice that you can specify an IP address that can access your router.  If you set your wireless up as having a static IP (and as you're talking about BitTorrents and port fowarding, you'll probably want to) you *should* be able to use your internal IP for it (ex. 192.168.2.100).  But the documentation doesn't mention it, and I'm 50/50 on if it will work or not.  Regardless, the any IP address will work no problem, just make suer you use your router's WAN IP address, no the 192.168.2.1.

If you find the answer a little confusing feel free to ask me to clarify.

I have a Belkin G+ MIMO router. I just bought a color Nook from Barnes and Noble and am having trouble connecting it to my wireless. I have found the info in properties, but the security key (password)...

The security key for the router should be stored ihe computer that was used to configure the router, as well as any computer which made a wireless connection to the router. You should be able to retrieve the passkey from any of those computers, by installing some additional software.

For the computer that configured the router, download and install this program:
RouterPassView by NirSoft

For a laptop that connected to the router, download and install this program:

Just bought a new Compaq wireless laptop keeps asking me for a security key. Is this my provider or The Belkin router It's old and not been used for a few years model F5D9230-4

It is the router that you need to configure, to define:

* SSID (a "name")

* an encryption-level (use: WPA)

* a password/security-key

for your wireless network.

Then, you can connect to your network.

Forgotten the security key number/password and need it to set up a wireless laptop Thanks Ken

Use a computer wired to the router to access the setup page and get the network key.

In the address bar of your browser, type 192.168.2.1.

By default, leave the password blank.

Once on the setup page of the router, go to Wireless -> Security.

You will see the network key here.

I hope this helps!

Need to secure router via laptop

Hi Thanks for your question
I think my tutorial may help you with this please click this link----> http://www.fixya.com/support/r4695161-change_wireless_network_password_forgott

Because of the fact that you can connect to your network without cable since it's unsecured you don't need to connect by cable. Skip this part and carry on with going to the routers settings site then to router wireless settings and password change. Remember to choose WPA method of security. Good Luck and please let me know if this was any helpful.

Need to secure router via laptop

Your laptop must be a wireless computer. You want to secure the wireless network.
You will need to change the settings on the router.
First you will need to connect the computer to the router with the cable. Do you have any computer connected to the router ?
If not then connect the laptop to the router. Open the set up page of the router and change the wireless security settings of the network. Change the wireless network name also.

that is correct. When setting up wireless security in the router, do a wired or direct connection to the router first.

Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO (F5D9230-4)

hello!

normally, if you configure the wireless security settings wirelessly, it will automatically disconnect you from the network. you have to input the security key on the laptop first before it connects you back to the network.

i suggest, if you really like to configure the settings of your router, get an ethernet cable, connect it directly to the laptop so you can access and configure the router settings and to avoid from being disconnected

Connecting to secure network

when enabling wireless security the router and adapter must be both be configured and configured in a fashion that both support. If you need help provide confirmation of your wireless router's manufacturer and model and the same information for any wireless adapters or computers with built-in wireless adapters to be wirelessly connected.

This will allow us to determine the common security options for all wireless devices you have.

first of all are you talking about a secure wireless connection. if you aren't, then what it means is using an encryption key to secure your wireless connection. any computer connecting to your router can connect wirelessly and use your connection to do whatever they want unless you secure it. let me know a little more details and i will help you get it all set right.
