If you do not hear anything and you have drivers in it and it won't play anything at all then you may need to replace the drive.

This will be one of two things, 1- a driver glitch, you will need to uninstall the drivers for the cd/dvd drive from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the drive and reinstall the drivers automatically. This will fix it if it's a driver problem. You can also try any updated driver utilities, or patches for the drive from Acer's support site. 2- the cd/dvd drive has failed and needs replaced. These are basically plug and play devices, they either work or they don't, so a majority of the time when the machine stops recognizing the drive, it's because the drive has malfunctioned. Unfortunately, these drives are considered sealed units and replacement parts aren't available.

if it is truely a bad driver (as in software) you can go to: http://acer.com/support/download.htm they have all the drivers for your model laptop
SOURCE: Describe your Acer Aspire 5315
We ran a typical Aspire 5000 battery of tests, including games, applications, and a couple other areas. Time constraints limited the amount of testing we could get done before the NDA lift (and it's already a few hours late), but we will be providing a follow-up article with further testing and information. That said, if there are any specific areas that you'd like to see tested, feel free to e-mail me or leave a comment.
