MY LAPTOP CD/DVD DRIVE DOESN'T WORK

MY CD/DVD DRIVE IN MY COMPAQ PRESARIO V2000 laptop stopped working. When I ran a system hardware check it didn't recognize the cd/dvd drive was on. i have tried installing drivers, but it didn't work either. So I am clueless at this point. I'm hoping you could give me other options to try to resolve my problem...

check the registry
click start > run > type regedit > click ok.
In Registry Editor, expand the following registry path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
In the right pane, look for UpperFilters and LowerFilters, right click each of them and then click Delete. (If you only see one then that's fine).
NOTE: Make sure not to delete anything else or else your system will not boot to windows.
After deleting upprer and lower filters, exit from the registry editor and restart your system.
Check if your cd/dvd drive is working.
