Please follow the steps below to resolve your issue:
1.Turn off the scanner.
2.Disconnect the USB or Firewire cable from the back of the scanner.
3.Disconnect the Accessory Interface cable from the back of the scanner.
4.On the left hand side of the scanner, you will see a transportation lock. Use a coin or similar flat object to lock and then unlock. Repeat this 3 times, ensuring the lock is back in the unlock position when finished.
5.Lift up the lid to the scanner. On the bottom left hand side, you will see a transportation lock that slides horizontally. Toggle this 3 times, ensuring that it is back in the unlock (left) position when finished.
6.Reconnect the USB\Firewire cable and the Accessory Interface cable and turn the scanner on.
7.If the error is cleared, please try scanning and all should be well.

If it doesn't fix it, then your scanner has a hardware problem .

I don't know what scanner you are talking about. I cannot find anything on the left or right hand side of the scanner. The transportation lock is in the back and it's a cable lock. I also couldn't find the transportation lock on the bottom left hand side when I lifted the lid. Are you sure you are referring to the Epson Perfection 2580 Photo Flatbed Scanner? If so, please tell me where these things are that you are referring to in your response.
This must be an Epson page for newer Perfection scanners. It doesn't apply to mine. I already went to the Epson site. That is why I contacted FixYa. It sounds like there is not fix for it and I have to take it to an authorized dealer or buy a new one. Would that be your take?
