We have a advent laptop the sceen will not come on lights on laptop are on but screen is not

No Display, Yet Have Backlight means One Of 2 Things could be the problem..

1) Faulty Or Misseated Display Cable
2) Faulty Display Screen

You SHould First Test Your Video By Plugging In A Desktop Monitor Into The Laptops Serial Port, Check To See If Video Shows On The External Source.. If It Does... Look At Number 1 &2... If No Video Shows On External Screen, You Have a Video Problem..

Check Your Display Cable Connection First.. This Means You Will Be Disassembling The Screen...Remove the Rubber Screw Covers From The Front Bezel Of The Screen, Then Remove The Screws..
Then Use A Thin Plastic Tool.. Such As A Guitar Pick Or Thin Credit Card And Pry The Front Bezel Away From The Back Panel..Start At a Corner and Slide the Tool Around All 4 Corners and Sides.. Pull Front Bezel Away, Set Aside... Now Unscrew The Screen From The Side Hinge Post Rails... There Will Be Anywhere From 2 to 4 Screws On each side... Pull Top Of Screen Downward and lay flat on keyboard..
You Can Now Reseat Your Display Cable... Make Sure You Unpeel The Sticky Tape That Holds The Display Cable To The Screen.. Pull Cable Out And Reattach.... Power On And Test Display....

If Still No Display, You Might Need To Check The Other End Of The Cable On The Motherboard End...

Vista is not letting things go away

It's sounds like it may be an issue with the screen refresh rate. From your desktop right click and select properties. Then select the display tab. From there, choose the option to reset to default settings.

Screen only showing vertical lines after being dropped

The damage could be either in the LCD screen or the connection cable. Open the screen assembly and check the connection cable first.
