Question about PNY 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive - Grey/Black

1 Answer

Install a disk in drive F?

I may have accidentally corrupted my PNY4GB Flash Drive and its only two weeks old! When I plug it in to the USB port I get the safely remove indication in the tray. When I go to 'my computer' it shows the icon for removable Disk F but when I click on it it says "please install a disk in drive F".

Properties show it as empty? How do i re-install the manufacturers software or possibly recover my lost files?

Download this file from PNY to reformat your Flash Drive. It should work after that. Get the file here:

How do I download files to my sandisk flashdrive

waltersmaya,
depending on your operating system downloading files to your flash drive is actually quite simple. Plug the flash drive into the USB port on your computer, the operating system will find the drive, install the drivers and mount the drive as a disk. If you open up the "My Computer" icon you should see the additional drive letter in your list there. What operating system are you running?

Tip

Faulty USB Flash Drives

FAULTY FLASH DRIVES
Sometimes when a flash memory stick or USB external hard drive fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.

When the flash memory USB hard drive device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash or USB hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Healthy.

You need to format the flash or external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchanged between MACs and PCs also between XP/Vista and earlier versions of Windows).
Otherwise format the USB flash drive in NTFS.
Insert the flash or external hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Health

Many people still don't realize this, but flash memory wears out the more you delete and write files to it. How quickly it wears out will depend on the specific flash drive. Like anything, there is a wide range of quality in currently available flash memory-based drives. You can make a rough correlation with the cost/quality of the device (what you pay is what you get), but even that tends to change over time. Depending on usage and quality it could be talking as short as months or as long as several years. In extreme cases of misuse it could lasting as little as a few weeks.

Every tym i insert my pendrive it says insert disk into the drive...???removable disk appears..but it doesnt opns...is there any solution...plz do help me

Assumption 1
Flash drive is damaged, the normal operating system.
Solution
If the flash drive is detected (eg; detected the flash drive in drive G), but it says "insert the disk into the drive ..."
1. Download software JetFlash Online Recovery (open link - select type software - select OS Windows - select language English - select product JetFlash All Series - Download).
2. Insert the flash drive
3. Open file OnLineRecovery.exe - Select the volume of the device - Repair the drive & keep data existed - START. If it fails, select Repair the drive & erase all data - START.

If the flash drive is not detected (not detected as drive G),
the above solution can not be used.

Assumption 2
Normal flash drive, the operating sytem is corrupt
Solution
Flash drives do not require drivers (plug and play). Because flash drives plug and play, it should be, when the flash drive inserted detects the operating system without installing drivers. But, if the operating system does not detect, the possibility of operating systems corupt. The cause is a virus corrupt your operating system.

1. Download and install anti-virus Avira or AVG (free).
2. Update anti-virus
3. Scan your computer.
4. Repair the operating system.
5. If no virus is detected, the possibility of operating system is corrupt.

I hope this information helps.

Files on a flash drive canbe corrupted if it is not removed from the USB port properly.
Before removing the flash drive click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon andthen click on the flash drive you want to remove and then remove the flashdrive when the computer message says it is Safe to remove.
To restore the flash drive to working order you need to format the flash drive,BUT you will lose the data stored on the flash drive.

If the Windows 98 computer does not have a USB port and you cannot copy the photos onto a floppy disk or burn the photos to a CD then the only option is the following.
Remove the hard disk and connect it to a USB hard drive adapter and then plug this into a USB port of a working computer. This computer will see this as an external storage device, you can then open the various folders and copy your photos to this computer or to a USB flash drive.
