Question about NetGear DG834G Router

2 Answers

The Wireless Signal keeps dropping out.

This router (Netgear DG834G) used to work fine. Recently the wireless network has started dropping out without warning and often the internet connection speed can be very slow (sub dial-up speeds). I have checked the ADSL download speed using an older wired router and speed checking software and it's fine.

When the wireless drops out (which occurs on my laptop, PS3, Wii and iPhone) the light on the front indicating a Wireless transmission is still green. The network than randomly reappears and sometimes I can reconnect to it and sometimes I can't. I have read lots of sites trying to resolve this issue myself but to no avail. PLEASE CAN YOU HELP?

I list below what I have done/tried:

I have not added any new electrical equipment.
I have updated the Firmware.
I have checked the Firewall settings.
I have manually entered the DNS stipulated by my IPS (Virgin Broadband).
I have checked the local wireless routers and set my channel to 13 to deconflict from others (I set it to 1 and 2 as well but this didn't solve the problem).
I have de-powered and repowered.
I have returned the Router to factory settings and set it up from scratch.
I have checked my incoming internet connection using a wired router.
I have a WPA PSK enabled network in place.

Make sure that there are no cordless or wireless devices near the router such as a cordless phone since that will interfere with the wireless signal and a cause for frequent disconnection.

otherwise, the device should be replaced already.

try to reboot your netgear router. if the same issue persist, try deleting the wireless networks saved to your computer and try to reconnect.

Hope that works.

I cannot get wirelessconect to my laptop from my netgear modem router DG834G.I can see the signal but unable to connect

check whether the dhcp option is turned on in ur wireless router. if its turned off, change it to on state and try. u will be able to connect. still if u din get access. use some other lap to connect to ur wireless network. if it is possible to connect with someother lap, then the problem is with ur lap. the wifi drivers might get corrupted. re-install it to fix the problems. if all above doesn't gets work, then the problem is with ur wireless router.

You will need to check the wireless settings of the router
is there any computer connected to the router ?
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
Router set up page is the page where you can check all the wireless settings of the router.

From ur laptop click "Start" then "Connect to" then "wireless network connection" then "view wireless networks" Your signal is probably the strongest one. Double click on it and it should aquire the network address automatically. Your in business!

I have a THOMSON ST585v6sl with AOL running off

Well it may be possible, only if your wireless router supports WDS. Also, note that in DG834Gv3 , v4, v5 supports WDS. If you have v2 or v1 then it wont connet wirelss with your existing network.

Please reply if your existing wireless router has WDS and the version of the NETGEAR router so that I will provide you with the required steps to make it work wireless.
