Re: Error 18

Check the following when you operate the camera to avoid applying pressure to the lens and surrounding area: - Hold the camera so that your fingers do not touch the lens unit when you are shooting. - Make sure the camera is off before you put it back in the case. Exercise caution to ensure that the camera does not accidentally power on while the camera is stored inside the case.

I'm getting a error message that says, "ERR 99".

Welcome to Fixya
Err 99 could mean several different things, such as... Memory Card, Lens or Lens contacts....

Here's what you can try:
Remove the memory card an enable "shooting with out memory card" and see if you still get the error. If it works your memory card is bad. Try another lens if you can. Clean the lens contacts with a pencil eraser (be careful not to get eraser dust in the camera body or in the lens). Worst case scenario is, Err 99 could be related to the shutter failing which would mean a trip to Canon.

Thanks

When placing a CF card in the camera it displays error 2 what does this mean?

Hello,

Error 2 on the Digital Rebel is a CF Driver error.
It means the camera cannot write to the CF card.
Either the card is damaged or the card cannot connect to the camera.

If you have more than one card try another card.
If this doesn't work one of the pins in the camera may be bent.
This happened on a card reader of mine and I was able to fix it myself.
Otherwise it needs a professional repair.

Hope this helps.

E 18 errror

The following blog outlines some repair options for an E18 lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:

Error #18 Lens will not close and camera shuts off

Hey louboyens,
According to the manufacturer error code 18 is a lens error code. What that means is something is obstructing the movement of the lens. I would make sure that your hands or anything else is not preventing the lens from moving correctly when your powering the camera on, and make sure the camera is powered off and not powering on while in your camera bag. Try turning it off and back on and after this the camera still displays the error code you should probably have it looked at by an authorized service technician.

Sincerely,
Allan

Error 18

The "E18" error code indicates an error that involves the lens unit or lens cover. This error may appear where the lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting such as, for example, when pressure is applied to the lens or the area surrounding the lens while handling the camera. The error may also be displayed if the lens unit/camera has been subjected to an external shock, or if a foreign substance (i.e. liquid, sand, dirt) enters the camera. Solution Check the following when you operate the camera to avoid applying pressure to the lens and surrounding area: - Hold the camera so that your fingers do not touch the lens unit when you are shooting. - Make sure the camera is off before you put it back in the case. Exercise caution to ensure that the camera does not accidentally power on while the camera is stored inside the case.
