Samsung YP-U2 & Windows Media 11 on Vista Home Premium

Hello there and I am stumped on a problem posed to me by my sister.

Hardware
1. Acer Laptop with Visa Home Premium
2. Windows Media Player 11
3. Samsung YP-U2 MP3

Napster is used to download music onto MP3 and for a year or so there has been no problem and then all of a sudden WMP11 cannot connect MP3 and therefore neither can Napster, which requires WMP. Laptop's My Computer can see the MP3 in Drive F and when you plug the MP3 into the USB it even Auto Plays tracks using WMP11. I have checked the MP3 on three other media players (Media Monkey, Real Player and Winamp) and all three can connect and play the device without a problem.

Being that it is Vista I cannot uninstall or reinstall WMP11. The drivers of the MP3 seem to be up to date, Napster was unistalled and reinstalled and short of me guessing that maybe a Windows update has thrown something out of sync, I'm out of ideas.

Any words of wisdom would very appreciated by sister and her brother.

Thanks
Jeremy

Same with Samsung YP-T9. Must be a Windows update -- I am running Vista on my other laptop and it's still working (knock wood). Somebody call Billy Gates and tell him to stop fixing stuff that ain't broke!

This error is common with Windows Media Player

Here is the instruction:

  3. Run the program (You should see something like: Please connect the device)
  4. Hold down the Play button and connect the Mp3 Player to USB port(Hold down the play button while you connect the device, you should seea message (normally after 8 seconds) like: Initializing on YP-U2J Updater program screen)
  5. After you hear the Windows chime "new device found" or the message"Initializing" on YP-U2J Updater, you can now remove your hand fromplay button.
  6. Check the Format Data Area checkbox (By clicking the yes button, you will lose all of your data in your Mp3 player)
  7. Click the "yes" button
  8. Finally, click on the Start button (takes less than a minute). DO NOT REMOVE YOUR DEVICE

Update: Pleasekeep in mind that if you sync your Mp3 player with a computer that hasa Windows Media Player 9 or 10, you should do these steps again

My Samsung YP-S2 Mp3 player can't be recognised by computers when I plug it in through the usb input (it used to work), therefore I'm not able to upload music on it anymore. How can I fix this bug?

Samsung Player Is No Longer Detected By Windows XP, Vista, Emodio Or
Samsung Media Studio.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When your computer doesn't recognize your Samsung MP3 player, programs
such as Samsung Media Studio (SMS), Emodio, Windows Media Player
(10 or 11) do not allow you to transfer files to your player.
In SMS and Emodio, the portable icon appears grayed out.
In Windows Media Player, you are prompted to connect a device.
Your PC may fail to recognize your player for a variety of reasons.
To begin troubleshooting, scroll down, and then click the operating
system your computer is currently running.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
General Operating System Information
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Windows computers, Samsung MP3 players require at least Windows XP
Service Pack 2. If you have an older operating system such as Windows
2000 or Windows 98, your computer won't recognize your player until you
upgrade your PC to at least Windows XP Service Pack 2.
If your PC is running Linux or MAC, it will not recognize some MP3
players that support only MTP mode. However, it will recognize players
that support UMS mode and list them as mass storage devices.
The following Samsung MP3 players support UMS: YP-U1, YP-U2, YP-U3,
YP-U4, YP-U5, and YP-S2.
The following Samsung MP3 players support both MTP and UMS mode: YP-Z5
and YP-P3.
Windows Vista may fail to detect you device if the player is not
connected properly, Windows Media Player is not installed or has become
corrupted, Vista is unable to install the MTP drivers, or the MTP patch
is not installed.
You can check it out further by going to this website and entering the information about your player

Samsung yp s3 doesnt work on xp

I have Windows XP and Media Player 10.

I had same problem with Samsung media studio not recognizing MP3 player. Here is how I fixed it. With the MP3 plugged in, I had to go into System/ Hardware/Device Manager and find the S3 driver under "Windows portable Media" and uninstall it. Then unplug and replug the S3 into the usb so that driver gets reinstalled.

Then I decided windows media player and samsung media studio are unnecessary for transferring music files to MP3 player.

Instead I go into Portable Media Devices from the control panel and just treat the MP3 player like a usb device. I copy folders of music and songs into the Music folder on the MP3. For me this is way easier than the Samsung music studio or Windows Media player.

Check whether u formatted your player to NTFS rather than FAT32.

Just do a reformat, and this time, in the FAT32 format.

check wether you use media player 10 or 11. If you have 11 remove all traces of it and either rollback or re-install 10. You will have to reboot your laptop once you have put media player 10 on.
