The way I read this, you can't get a picture on the newer TV but you can with the older one. Are you sure that your DVD player is capable of S-video transmission? There may be a setting you have to adjust to take a feed from the DVD player using the S-video input. Take another look through the manual for the DVD player if you have one - you may find that the way to make it work is different on your DVD player when using S-video than when you use regular patch cables. There seems to be nothing wrong with the S-video input on your TV, and the DVD player works fine (since you can use it on the older TV) so there has to be a setting (maybe menu-driven) to adjust in order to allow S-video to work. I'll buzz a friend of mine tomorrow morning and see if I can get a scoop from him on how to make it work.

Hi there,

You should still be able to use the standard RCA cables (Yellow, Red and White Cables) from the DVD player to the TV.

Thank you for using FixYa! Have a great day and please remember to rate this solution.

I HAVE A ZENITH TELEVISION AND I CANNOT HOOK MY DVD/VCR COMBO TO IT. THERE IS NO PLACE TO PUT THE CABLE. MY TELEVISION HAS THE ANTENNA/CABLE PLUG AND THE YELLOW,WHITE,AND RED OUTLETS ON.

your TV has composit video in but your DVD/VCR only has Component video and Svideo outputs ..those are not compatable with your tv .. if you look more closely you might find an SVideo input on your tv .. its flat and not as easy to see as the normal jacks .. if your tv does have SVideo then all you need is an SVideo cable (plus the two sound cables) ... i could check on what you have if you give the TV model number .. othwise you have to have something to convert your SVideo to composit video .. there is a cable that does that .. you can check with radio shack .. if they do have such a cable then one end would plug into the svideo of the dvd/vcr . the other end would plug into the yellow jack on your tv .. hook up sound and it should work ok ..
here is such a cable on the internet ..

or google "svideo to composite" to see lots of options

Dvd won't send picture/audio to tv

for video, 3ways and any of this should work.
Step1, video out of dvd to video in on top at video1 section on tv. or
Step2, svideo out of dvd to svideo in at video1 section on tv. or
Step3. using component video DVD unit component video out to TV unit component video in at video2 Y to Y input of TV Pb to Pb input of TV Pr to Pr input of TV
for audio, connect left/right audio of dvd to left/right input of tv. Input section of TV is in the middle. on tv back panel from left to right is antenna input, IN section - this is it, use this for all your connections. let us know if you have any issues. thanks.

I dont know how to hook up a dvd player

Depending on the model of DVD player and the TV you are trying to connect it to you have various inputs and outputs.

If your have an HD (High Definition) DVD Player and a HD TV the best input to use is HDMI. Both device would have an HDMI interface whereby you could connect them together.

If you have a standard DVD Player you have usually 3 other input/output options, RCA, S-Video, and Component. Your RCA jacks are colored Red, Yellow, and White. Your S-Video is a larger circular jack with several pins. The Component cable has Red, Green, and Blue.

Of the three above the Component Cable connection is going to give you best picture quality. S-Video is second and RCA is third. You just need to match up the connectors on your TV and DVD and get the cable that accommodates the best picture quality. Again for clarification below are the interface options for best quality to poorest:

1. HDMI
2. Component
3. S-Video
4. RCA

Hope this helps.

Cabling -- Panasonic LCD TV into LG DVD player (model no. DV6812P)

Take the basic Red, White, Yellow component cable -- plug it into the backside of the DVD player and plug the other side into the back of the t.v. Make sure to plug the right colors into the right sockets. If there are no available AV inputs on the back of the t.v, plug the other end into your cable box (if you have one).

Connections

Hi If I'm understanding what you have written, the new DVD should hook up exactly the same way your old one did. You connect the red and white cable from the "Audio out" connectors on your new DVD to the "Audio In" connectors on the RF modulator, then connect the Svideo out on the DVD to the Svideo connector on the RF modulator. Then put your TV on channel 3 or 4 depending on what the switch on the modulator is set to, and all should work fine. I would advise you hook your old one back up, then if it works, simply unplug the cables from you old DVD and plug them into the proper jacks on the new one. This eliminates bad cables. If you then get sound, but no picture, the DVD may be set to progressive scan (check manual for procedure take it out of that mode),If you get nothing, then I suspect there is a problem with the new DVD player. The TV/VIDEO switch they mention, would be a switch on the TV or TV remote if you had a newer TV with RCA inputs.....You don't, so disregard that, it does not apply to your TV. You would not need the RF modulator if your TV had that switch. Good Luck!...These things can be a pain, I hope this helps!
