Hi guys i am facing problem while trying to install or even boot from CD or USB, my problem it's when i press any key to boot from CD i just get blank screen and i thing the laptop is stuck. Please...

Ok so I'm guessing it's detecting it's a bootable CD since it is prompting you to "press any key to boot from CD" right? If it goes to a blank screen after that and doesn't go any further, I would think it's 1 of 3 things.

1, the CD you are using is bad or damaged. Try a different bootable CD or try to burn a copy of that one and try with the new copy.

2, Could be a memory issue. If you have multiple sticks of RAM in your computer, try removing 1, testing, then the other (while replacing the first one you removed).

3, Your Hard drive could be corrupt or damaged. I would first try wiping it clean with a program like Darik's boot and nuke (http://www.dban.org/). THIS WILL DESTROY ALL DATA ON THE HARD DRIVE. Then try to re-install again.

Good luck!

I get a blue screen and i cant log into my laptop

If starting windows on safe mode does not work you can try to repair by recovery console. But first you need to have a Windows XP CD, then follow this instructions:

1.Reboot the computer with the Windows XP CD in the optical drive. First you will need to accept the license agreement, press F8 to accept it and proceed.

2.Setup will search for existing windows installations, at this point it should give you the options to install a fresh copy of windows or to repair. In this case press R key to rapair.

3.After you press the R key, the recovery console should start up. It should show a message like ''Microsoft Windows XP Recovery Console'' etc etc. and command prompt. It will ask you wich Windows XP installation you would like to log onto, you should type 1 and press enter, then it will ask you for the administrator password, type it and press enter.
Now, don't really know what is your problem exactly, so lets try this:

4. Type ''fixmbr'' and press enter, this fix the master boot record.
Type ''copy d:\i386\ntldr'' and press enter.
Type ''copy d:\i386\ntdetect.com

5. Now lets rebuild the boot.ini, in case that it's gone or corrupted.
Type ''bootcfg /rebuild''.
Recovery console will try to locate all installed copies of windows and ask if you want to add them to the new BOOT.INI file that it's going to create, chose yes for the ones you want.

6.That's it. Type exit, and take out the CD from the optical drive.

If that does not work try checking the hard drive. Do this by entering recovery console as before. As soon as you get to the command prompt type ''chkdsk'' this runs the check disk utility, and will tell you if your disk is good or damaged. If it's damaged you will need to replace it.

My laptop will not boot, instead it goes to a blue screen that states it is not able to access the hive.

I think this is the exact error : Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE or its log or alternate

CAUSE
This issue can occur if the System or Software hive for the Windows XP installation is missing or damaged.

RESOLUTION:

To resolve this issue, please follow one of the following methods.

Use the Recovery Console Tool:

To restore a damaged registry hive, use the Recovery Console to restore the backup copy of the hive from the Repair folder. The Repair folder contains a copy of the system's registry hives that were created after the first successful startup of Windows XP.

WARNING : Although data should not be affected by the following procedure, you may need to restore changes you previously made to programs or system settings since the first time you successfully started Windows XP.

To replace the damaged registry hive and restore the backup copy of the hive from the Repair folder: Start your computer to the Recovery Console. You need your original XP CD, boot your PC from the CD and press R when it say 'Press 'R' to use recovery console.

In Recovery Console, change to the c:\Windows folder.

Type cd system32\config , and then press ENTER.

Type dir system , and then press ENTER.

If you cannot run the preceding command successfully (because the file is missing), skip to step 3. If you can run the preceding command successfully, type ren system system.bak , and then press ENTER.

Type copy c:\windows\repair\system , and then press ENTER.

NOTE : If the message that you received referred to the software file, replace "system" with "software" in the preceding command. For example, you would type copy c:\windows\repair\software (instead of copy c:\windows\repair\system ), and then press ENTER.

You should receive a "One file copied" informational message. For additional information about how to use Recovery Console during startup, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
Q307654 HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console for Windows XP

IMPORTANT : If you encounter problems when you run the preceding commands, you may need to use the Change Directory command ( cd ) one folder at a time before you run the preceding commands. For example, type cd system32 , press ENTER, type cd config , and then press ENTER.

Type exit , and then press ENTER to quit Recovery Console and restart the computer.

i understand this looks a litle daunting, please get back to me if you have any trouble with this.

Damaged install CD probably.  Toshiba might send you a new one if you ask nicely.  Alternately, you could download a generic copy of vista from the net; install it; then go to Toshiba's site to get all the drivers for your particular laptop model of laptop.  Install all the drivers and you're good to go.

I need to reformat my NEC e3100 because im experiencing all kinds of internet issues and software issues where my computer doesnt even recognise any programs installed. how do i go about resetting it. i...

To reformat usually you either use a windows install disc and reinstall windows, or you use a boot disk and a format utility, depending on the windows version. There are also format discs such as UBD that also work. When you format your drive, you lose all the information on it. You also will need a windows disc and serial number to install after a format.

The easier way to get your computer working is to simply use your windows disc to re-install windows. Before doing that it is a good idea to run several different virus and spyware scanners as well as a registry cleaner. RegScrubXP is a good one to use. When windows is running, simply browse to your windows disc and run setup.exe, that will reinstall windows over top the copy you have and replace any damaged or missing files. Then reinstall all your programs and it should all work. Programs can be re-installed over top even if they already are installed, basically all that happens is the missing files are replaced. Re-installing does not give you two coies of the same program - it just makes the copy that is already there work again.
Windows 2000 and XP have a feature for repairing also, in the start/run menu, type sfc /scannow and put your windows CD in, it will then check all files and replace any damaged or missing ones.

Installing win xp from external hard drive

Umm...is your laptop crashed??? Usually ntlldr issues ****. try to delete the former installation so a new ntldr file can be installed so as to not conflict with the damaged ntldr file that is on the pc blocking the install. It sounds like your setup is ok...at the very least get another xp cd to make sure the disk is not damaged that you are loading windows from.
