Hi, when I turn my laptop on it starts up fine buth the lcd screen doesnt light up. If you look closely you can see the picture on screen but it is to dark to use. I have tried the brightness shortcuts on the keyboard but that didnt work. I also tried to connect an external monitor up and it wouldn't work either. My laptop was sitting on the table still from the night before where it was working and the problem was there the next morning when i went to turn it on. can anybody please help????

It sounds like your backlight in the LCD screen has died. However your system should work with an external monitor. When you connected up the monitor to the VGA connector did you change the settings on the system to output to the VGA output ?
Try connecting the monitor before the computer is turned on - then once booted hold the Fn key and press F7. Then pause then press Fn and F7 again to see if you can get the external screen to show your screen. It sounds like a dead back light though.
