Sounds like you've got something stuck under your shift key. Carefully clean out under the keys, try a paintbrush and a hoover (on low suction if possible).

Be careful not to knock any of the keys off. They're held on by small clips which pop out or break easily.

Keyboard letters are numbers and numbers are letters

Examine your keyboard to ensure your "Number Lock" key is not activated.

This activation is indicated by the key being lit up.

If the key is activated, press it to deactivate the lock.

The number lock key will deactivate an entire segment of your keyboard

Start, click Run, and type regedit to open the Windows registry editor.

In the registry, open the below folders.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Control Panel\
Keyboard\

Within the keyboard folder, you should have a string value named "InitialKeyboardIndicators" with a value of 0, 1, or 2. Below is the explanation of each of these values.

0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after the logon.
1 = Disable Num Lock.
2 = Numlock is turned ON after the logon.

I CHANGED MY PASSWORD ON MY SIEMENS AMILO Si 1520 NOTEBOOK AND AM LOCKED OUT SINCE. I WANT TO KNOW WHERE IS THE CAPS LOCK STATUS SYMBOL ON THE KEYBOARD IN CASE CAPS LOCK WAS ON WHEN I CHANGED THE PASSWORD...

The Caps Lock button is normally to the left of the "A" key on the keyboard. I don't know that specific laptop, but there may be a light with the letter "A" in a padlock shown on the top of the keyboard, which will indicate the specific status of the caps lock.

Keyboard suddenly began typing randomly.

My friend, you can still have a hardware problem even though there has been no 'change in hardware'.

How so?

Your keyboard is a hardware item and ... well ... they are not created equal. Some last a long time while others, well, they don't last all that long. Your keyboard is equipped with more than 100 mechanical switchs that, when monentarily closed, send an instruction to a processor to do something. Based on what you are telling me, you have some switches that are stuck closed (turned on), even though perhaps, temporarly.

To prove or disprove this, try another keyboard on your computer.

If yours is a wireless or IR, there is that additionally possibility of interferance either from reflection or from other devices or sources.

Jumbled numbers and text

Look for the numlock light somewhere near the keyboard. It's the light with a drawing of a lock with a 9.

If it's lit up. turn it off by pressing the numlock key.

Turning it back on will activate the number keypad (consists of 9-11 keys in the middle of the keyboard). So instead of getting letters, numbers appear.

Hope this is your case. Kindly rate me if the issue got fixed.
