Question about Intel Motherboard

2 Answers

Computer problems I have a computer that starts up but then shuts down. Come to find out the DSL modrem the line in was burned up. Was told that the power supply and with that particular Emachine motherboard when the power supply is hit by lightning it fries the motherboard. He said that they do not make that motherboard anymore and said that he could put my hard drive and DVD RW in a new cpu unit with a pent 4, 512mb, and it would be as good as what I had for around 360.00 and that was with tax. I had an Emachine cpu with Vista, Intel Celeron D processor 356, 512mb, and the motherboard was an Intel Desktop Board D945GCL-E210882. Told him Ok because needed cpu for work. Went to get it and asked for XP disk was told that he was on vacation had to wait until he got back for disk. Had the computer around three weeks and video went out, so I took it back to the repair computer place and told them the video was out and I did not want a video card I wanted another motherboard and where was my disk. Then was told that they do not give any disks with refurbished cpu units, of course I was in shock because was not told it was used at all. Around six days later was told to pick up computer, it was because of waiting on the disk to come. He then said that with everything he wasn't going to make anything, but that was ok, that they were blessed and he was passing on the blessing on to me. Whatever! I have found out since then that he lied about the motherboard it can be purchased on newegg.com and what about not giving any software with computers? What can you tell me about this issue?

SARAHSMITH2228@GMAIL.COM .. I HAVE NO CONNECTIONS TO THE INTERNET. I HAD VERIZON CHECK OUT MY INTERNET SERVICE EVERYTHING WAS FINE THEY SAID IT WAS THE COMPUTER. I AM ON LINE NOW BECAUSE I AM HOOKED UP TO...

Thank you for using FixYa
You say that you are online now but it goes out. When it goes out does the light still stay green on your router? Check and see next time. If it does not stay green, then Verizon has a problem and the internet connection is dropping out. If it does then you may have a problem with your modem or router depending on the device, some of them can be set incorrectly and time out, therefore loosing connection. If the DSL signal is too slow but still making a connection it will appear as connected but the modem shuts it down. Intermitten connection is probably not on your equipment, and it may be in the wiring. Check and see if there is anything that might be moving near the equipment. (if you are talking wireless connection then we need to address this differently.) Also keep in mind that there is a physical phone line that provides the service that the DSL line comes in on and be sure it is not hooked up to a line that has a fax/phone system on it. It may be in the telephone line and the local phone company may need to look at the line to see if it has a break or grounding out or something. I have to give you all the possibilites because we do not have real time communication here with email, and there are many things I do not know from the description. I suggest that you consider using 'chat' with a Fixya agent so we can do more troubleshooting.

I hope this was useful and please comment if this was helpful to you.

When mounting a motherboard to the case you need to add some spacers between them so the MB doesn't contact the case directly, most the MBs today have a protection to shut down so they don't get burned

Try starting your computer outside the case (you can use a key or a screwdriver for the power pins to start it).

Hi this might be a monitor resolution fault, or set incorrectly, is this xp home? or windows 7 home?, if it is a windows xp home, just right click on screen, then properties, then settings, you then can move the resolution bar up or down, i think in your case this will be down, you also can go to the advanced button, and change the Dpi once done save settings and see what happens,..if you have windows7 home, just right click on desktop, then change resolution in the menu, then drag the bar down and see how that works, and really then its a case of adjusting until you get the lines gone...hope this helps

Try using a good Antivirus software like McAfee, PCCilline, Norton Antivirus, NOD32 etc. First download the Antivirus and install then update it. In most cases such problems are solved. (ehteshamhusain@gmail.com)

Network connection prompt error 6: handle is invalid

Hi glamredhel, Norton has removed the virus or Trojan & if you have windows system restore turned on the virus or Trojan will return once the system has re-booted. Open windows device manager & shut off system restore. Re-boot your system & re-scan your system with Norton. In your case Norton did not give you instructions on how to remove the virus. (Norton did that for you).
Once completed check windows update service for a possible update for your LAN. Asus does not have a separate LAN driver listed on Asus web site. The LAN driver is part of the chipset drivers. Remove your modem from the system & any software you installed with it. (If any). Restart your system. (If the system seems fine-good. Shut down the system & re-install your modem & any software. When completed do another windows restart. See if the modem functions (If your modem is either a cable or DSL reset it.
Shut down the system.
Located on the back of the cable modem or DSL modem you will find a tiny re-set button. Unplug the power cord from the modem. Take a pen & press the reset button for 10 seconds. Re-connect the power cord & boot the system. Check for internet connection.

The above are just a few item you should try.
Good luck glamredhel!
Post your findings.

Incessent beeping and won't boot

you told that your PC was ok last night. and again told at morning when you started it then it started giving beep. there may have 2-3 problems.

1. your processor has become loose, so unplug and plug the processor again correctly.

2. cooling fan can't cool the heat sinker properly. so test it that if the cooling fan is working properly.

3. The RAM can be loose. So test the RAM. Unplug the RAM and then plug it perfectly.

but you told that you PC is starting and then shutting down giving a beep. so i think you PC problem is number 2. and I hope you follow the number 2.

Unplug the the dsl & any other device except the keyboard & mouse. Double check the video cable at both ends monitor & PC. Boot up system. If the system starts shut down & connect 1 device. Boot the system. OK? continue to do this. On the dsl there is a reset button. With it unpluged from power use a pen & hold in the reset for about ten seconds. Reconnect the power & reconnect the Rj45 to the PC. Boot system.
