Question about Wireless Access Points

Wireless card problem

I have an Compac Presario V6000. Suddenly, the wireless card stopped working. I purchase a new one thinking it would solve the problem. It didn't. The cable company came to check it my connection and adivsed me that my computer does not show that I have a wireless card. The card has been checked to make sure it is connected.

I can connect to the Internet with the connection from the cable box or i can use NetGear if I need to be mobile.

Any hellp you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Thank you for your suggestion. Even though I spoke with HP technican, she was not helpful other than to remind me my computer was out of warrant. Through a deligent search, I found out that this is a problem with the motherboard HP used in the computer. There are 5 issues relating to this board. If anyone is experieincing this problem visit http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Tec.... Hopefully, this will help others. Bottom line, my original wireless card works. so I purchased a new one and will be asking for products since the representative did not perform her job well. Thanks again and to all good luck.

Try checking to see if there is a physical wireless switch on it or it has been disabled/turned off via software as well

Wireless Zero Configuration was first introduced with Windows XP. In Windows Vista it was renamed to "WLAN AutoConfig".
Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) or WLAN AutoConfig is a service included with modern versions of Microsoft Windows that dynamically selects a wireless network to connect to base on a user's preferences and various settings. This can be used instead (or in the absence) of a wireless network utility from the manufacturer of a computer's wireless networking device.
To join a wireless network:
  1. Open the Start menu and click Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel Home window, click View network status and tasks.
If you are using Classic View, double- click Network and Sharing Center
Click Connect to a network.
Select your network from the list and click Connect.
If security is enabled on the network, you will be asked to type your network security key or passphrase for your AP/router. After typing security key, click Connect.
and keep follows the prompt.

I dont no how to turn on my wifi or use my wifi on my compaq presario 2100

Start by making sure your windows configuration is equipped with the latest updates. I installed a new hard drive in my computer and did a fresh install of XP. Once it was installed, I used the "Tools" tab on Internet Explorer to do a windows update. It took several cyles of doing this to get things worked through. For instance, Update won't offer the Service Pack 2 unless you've already updated to Service Pack 1. After 2 or 3 or more cyles of running Update and rebooting my computer, I suddenly discovered my wireless feature was up and running. Once it is actually in operation, you will need to configure it using the menus. I'll leave that discussion to another expert.

Belkin usb used for ages worked great for wireless internet suddenly stopped working completely after power cut any ideas or has it just reached end of shelf life?

Replace the power supply. These are not to hard to get from goodwill for a buck. Bring your old one so you can find one with the correct power output. (5 volts dc at 2 amps usually)

I found the firmware version on the WAP4400n needs to be upgraded to at least 1.2.14. 1.2.17 is also available but I don't think it will anything more for you the .14.

well first off u prolly got hacked, he prolly made a backdoor by now, if he changed the settings on your bridge i reccomend resetting the device to factory defaults then updating the firmware, then obtain a physical copy or digital copy of the book "wireless hacking for dummies" not saying that u r adumb or any thing but this is really good resource to teach u to tighten up your security.

Several models suddenly 'dies' after 12-24 months

Sorry to tell you, but if you look on the apple wed site, you will discover that there has been many problems like this have occured. These are some reviews left on the apple web site: Junk. I like Apple products but this one never completely worked. Ive tried the firmware updates and they dont work either. JUNK I used my Express as a range extender to my Airport Extreme and to play ITunes through my home sound system. It worked like a charm for two years and then just died one day. Well, peppelino, i suggest you ditch it and buy a new wireless access point, like a belkin router or 3com access point. Hope this helps
