jblake certain basic Windows startup files are corrupted.
I suggest you use the Restoration Disk, and perform a Repair.
Non-Destructive Installation
This will repair the basic Windows files needed, and you will also have all of your personal information saved.
[ NOTE*
A Full Install, or Destructive Installation, will take the computer back to day 1 from the factory.
ANY programs, or applications put on the computer after Day 1, will be GONE. (Loaded by you or downloaded off of the internet)
All personal information is gone.
Documents you have created, or downloaded.
Photos, videos, and music ]

Have the Serial Number of your computer handy. It's in the white Service Tag on the bottom of your computer. S/N = Serial Number
You may have a harddrive going bad. Suggest you perform the diagnostic test to see, (After the computer is up, and going),
