Dyson won't keep running

My three month old Dyson DC17 will not keep running.  If I press the red button it will run but when I lift my finger off it stops.  Seems like the switch is not being held in the on position.  Help!!

Dyson dust cup won't open

Hi Sharon, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm glad your DC17 is working so well for you, but sorry to hear you're having currently difficulty opening the bin after use. As you'll be aware, it should empty quickly and hygienically at the press of a button.

It's possible the release mechanism could be jammed, which may occur if the parts are incorrectly aligned or have been accidentally damaged. It would be beneficial if you can contact our experts directly, so we can walk you through some quick troubleshooting checks. This will help us determine what's causing the issue.

You can reach us by calling 1-866-693-9766 (US) or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

My dyson is 8months old now its lost suction the brush turns thats it.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. If the cleaner doesn't seem to be performing as well as usual, you may need to wash the filters, and check for any obstructions. The easiest way to locate and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=954&product=DC17-ANIMAL

Under normal use, the filters should be washed at least once every 3 months. The correct way to do this is shown in our video guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1463&product=DC17-ANIMAL

Hopefully this should resolve your issue. However, if you've tried these steps and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and provide further assistance. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to askdysonUS@dyson.com, someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

How do I reattach bin on my dyson?

Place the bin on top of the filter housing, with the bin tilted slightly away from the vacuum, then while the bin pressing down and towards the vacuum keep pressing until you hear it 'click' onto the latch. Sometimes it helps to lift up the latch while you are installing the bin and then let go of the latch once the bin is installed.

Dyson dc17 power on/off button will not engage when pressed

The on/off switcdh underneath the button sounds like it's faulty and will need replacing. I would suggest caling Dyson in your country with the Serial No of the unit for guidance.
